Oh my, mellon-nin! This fanfiction is truly a work of art. It is definitely one of the best I have ever read (and I've read a lot ;)). You did very well with accommodating Tolkien's lore, and expressing how the characters feel and react about those events. This is the best Silmarillion based fic I've read! You are awesome!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think this story is going to end up being a lifelong project, so I'm very grateful for readers who can appreciate it. :)

This was beautifully written. I thought Thranduil would never propose. Can't wait to start book two. Hope you are reading my comments.

Thank you for reviewing! So glad you enjoyed it. Now you've motivated me to pick up Book III where I left off. :)

Very good! I really enjoyed this, it's not often that we get a look at things from the non-Noldor POV -- and of course the remnant of Doriatg would approach things very differently... Thanks for writing!

You do a really great job of making the long lives of elves seem normal. To think that several years (instead of weeks or months) pass between each of the little "incidents" between Thranduil and Lindoriel is so elvish. Of course they have the time. Your descriptions of the accident in this chapter were chilling, vivid, and very well done. I even felt sorry for the kinslayer (though I felt more sorry for the horse) ;) Wonderful story so far. I am really enjoying the entire family, especially Thranduil!

Yay! Oh Yay! Well done, Well done! *standing ovation* (hope that was spelled right). FINALY Thranduil saw the wonder that is Lin. I'm so happy that they finaly "found" each other. And how romantic yet painful because of their long wait for each other. There were times when I just wanted to smack Thranduil but after all he has been through one can't truly blame him. I love this hypothetical background to Mirkwoods royal family. And I love how you use humor in a subtle manner instead of spoiling the story with too much of it. I can totally see this as Legolas' background. I have always been a bit confused by what they ment by Oropher and Thranduil being Sindarin princes as they were never realy princes but just nobility. I like the way you wrote this. Can't wait to read book 2. By the way, I hope Melien gets a hubby sometime soon (even if she is a bit hoity toity - poor Malach. Glad he found true love later on). I like that you set the score straight and don't make Thranduil a son of *¿@#! as so many authors tend to do. Great writing stranger! PS: I've always had a perverse wondering in my mind if elves considered it inappropriate to kiss their love interests if they were not married or atleast betrothed. Seems less wrong now that a good author writes bout it without making it guilty or dirty lol. Cheers

It was a pleasant surprise that you have started the second volume so quickly! As always your writing is impeccable and your characters are so engaging that there is no need for any violent events or odd plot devices to move the story along. It is fascinating to read these characters brought to life in an earlier time, especially when it is done so well. Thanks for sharing. ~TF

ooh...*bubbles with elated happiness*...an update! Well...... update again soon!

Author's reply

I'm workin' on it! ^_^

ponypetter · 23 July 2005

It's sad to see Thranduil find out that there are still orcs around. It had never occured to me that the people in Middle Earth might think they had been eradicated after the war. It's an interesting touch.

Author's reply

Hey, there. ^_^ There was something somewhere about the Elves believing evil had been conquered forever after Morgoth, and the fact that they were all monumentally disappointed when that was obviously not the case. I imagined it would be awfully depressing after going through everything they did.

ponypetter · 23 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

Oh, I go away for a while and you post two new chapters. Woohoo. And Thranduil is in LOVE! Awww. How far are you planning to take this? Will we follow the family to Mirkwood? I'm quite enthused about that prospect. I also love the Silvans you brought to Lindon. I think it's a nice touch, and makes Oropher look less like a Colonialist and more like he was truly invited back. ;) I always wondered what sort of circumstances would prompt the wood elves to willingly take on a foreign lord. I hope you'll grace us with your theory.

Author's reply

Oh, certainly. ^_^ If all goes according to plan, Book II will take us through the rest of the Second Age, and Book III through the Third. BIII is where the real action is, IMO, but there's still some good stuff to keep us occupied through BII. So just hang tight, and hopefully we'll be on our way before long. ^_~

'Sigh' such a bittersweet chapter, I think that everyone is going to miss that place, but I can see a whole new adventure waiting for them at Eryn Galen. I just have to comment on the name of Thranduil's horse: Laegolas, its very similar to Legolas. I noticed it when I first read that name, but it kept slipping my mind, I think its rather ironic. Ugh I got this horrible flu thats why I'm only updating now, even though I'm supposed to be in bed, and whats worse is that on Friday my school is closing, how bad is that? Once again I'm definitely not disappointed in the update, I loved this chappie. And to think that Thranduil and co have to rebuild a new city all over again, but I think that they'll find it all worth the effort and labour. Any way my mother is calling me to drink my vile poison that they use for cough mixture(note the sarcasm) and into bed, so peace out. JGE

Author's reply

Don't worry; they'll be having too much fun in Eryn Galen before long to be missing Lindon. Get well!

Ginger Rich · 21 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

So the journey to Greenwood begins. This was a wonderful book out of Thranduil's history, and each chapter was well worth the long wait. hehe. Terrific job, Coriel. (I'm glad that cousin was able to go.) Ahhhh....I can't wait to read more. And I can't express how much I love this story. Seriously. It's awesome.

Author's reply

Thanks. ;) More on the way!

Redheredh · 20 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

A very lovely conclusion to this phase of Thranduil's biography. It is so strange sometimes finally coming to the end, reaching the goal, of something so longed labored towards. Rather a short time to contemplate it, gazing out over the terrace, before starting towards the next. Though I think it a bit sad though for him to think, with the wide land awaiting them, that he will most likely never again have a realm of his own. Was that his loyalty speaking? I really like Serataron's book and the home the Oropherwaith built - two important legacies - being exchanged. Very good to hear a dignified Oropher state that his people will remain "allies in peace and peril." And Gil-galad will not forget he said it, will he. Onward to Eryn Galen. Can't wait to get there!

Author's reply

Yes, it was very much his loyalty. It's also yet another example of that time-honored lesson that you can never know where your own life is taking you. ;) I don't really think Oropher expected the "peril" part to be more than pleasantry at the time, though it was no less sincere. He just didn't expect there to be any more big wars or any real reason for Gil-galad to come running to him for help. But that will come back to bite him later, sure enough. Yes! We're going! :D

silent planet · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

lovely ending....or transition, i suppose. it was easy to feel thranduil's emotions as he left their home. anyway, update soon, please.

Author's reply

Yes, very much a transition. We're just now getting on with things. ;)

Elwen Lassriel · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

Very well done, Cori, (as always); the writing is superb. I very much like the way that you are handling the story between Lindoriel and Thranduil. ;) It was bitter sweet reading the end of this book. I didn’t want it to end, but I trust the second volume will not be long in coming. Yes, very well done indeed, mellon nin. :) ~Elwen

Author's reply

Hannon le, as always. ;) Hopefully not long, Elwen mellon. I'd like to think it won't be long, anyway. I'd like to get as much as possible done before August, if you know what I mean. ;)

elliska · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

Excellent, indeed. I enjoyed seeing Thranduil and Lindoriel together and the Silvan elves' reactions to everything and the last conversation with Gil-galad. I particularly liked the book Serataron gave him--it was nice to see the conclusion of that plot line. This has been wonderful and I am looking forward to Book II. :-)

Author's reply

Book II has several interesting spins on the canon planned for it, which will hopefully make up for the fact that its timeline is rather sparse. All the really good stuff happens after the Last Alliance, anyway. ;)

TithenFeredir · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

This seemed a proper farewell to Lindon: bittersweet, but mostly sweet, and looking hopefully forward. You really captured a sense of the long time they had stayed there and the history they were leaving behind. I loook forward to reading Book II. ~TF

Author's reply

So do I. The problem is that I actually have to sit down and write it. ;)

Anonymous · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 18: Reign III

This has been a delightful story to read. I thank you, Coriel, for giving Thranduil such a depth of character.

Author's reply

You're welcome. ;) I'm trying to do my best for the poor guy.

Jay Greenleaf Elf · 2 June 2005 · Chapter 17: Reign II

Hi Coriel! Wow, what an update! Although I can't help being jealous of Lin, not at having Thranduil but that experience of true love, to have a guy that cares so much for you (sighs), I wish I had what she is experiencing, but who knows perhaps soon I will meet someone. I wonder what everyone's reaction is going to be, although, I don't think they will be all that surprised. I think that they will have a magnificent wedding with lots of yellow roses ;D. No offence, but I'm hoping that the next chapter will have some action in it, I'm not disappointed, I knew this chapter will be based mainly on the proposal, so you're still on my favourite list. I hope that you got me E-mail, let me know if you have. Peace out and God bless and Jesus loves you, J.G.E.

Author's reply

Well, as much as I'd enjoy some too, I can't promise any real action until someone starts a war, probably the Last Alliance. But we're moving on, and several other interesting developments are on the way. ;) Yes, I got your email, and I did reply to it, so I trust you got that. :)
