I have to agree with Layangabi, I have been loving this story up until Imrahil and his sons swaggered into the picture. You have a fun writting style and a bold use of Old English, but I just can't get behind Imrahil as an arrogant prick (also, by the by, Elphir was married and had a son before the War of the Ring began, Alphros was born in 3017). It's still very well written and I will keep reading it, I'll just be imagining Imrahil and his son's being played by their evil doppelgangers.
By the way, is your penname a reference to the Mordant's Need novels by Stephen R. Donaldson? :)
Author's reply
Uh, no. My penname is just a reference to one of my fav parts of ROTK movie and book---the Rohirrim pausing and looking upon Pelennor, then riding to Gondor.
Thanks for the Elphir stuff, I tried to get information on him, but I couldn't find anything, I'll have to go back and revise. LOL the evil doppelgangers. They're not evil, just a shade underhanded.

And I was enjoying this story so much...sorry friend, it's just that I've always seen as Imrahil as a *benevolent* figure in Faramir and Boromir's lives. The way you portray him in this chapter is a little jarring for me.
Author's reply
Sorry, he just jumped into the role. I know everyone sees characters differently. Anyway, I'm going to have to go back and do something about Elphir, so who knows now? I dont' think Imrahil's going to be the good guy, but really, he's not so bad to me, just using a different style of trying to get what he wants. As I see it, Eowyn's just about the best catch to come around in a while(lots of wealth in practical things, different bloodlines) in Gondor...besides Arwen, who's already taken. ;) Plus, I wanted Faramir to do something other than show up, you know?

· 1 April 2004
Awwww, we all know Eomer likes Faramir. He wouldn't have let him anywhere near Eowyn if he didn't.
You know, with all of Imrahil's underhandedness, you wouldn't think Eomer would even want to look at Lothiriel down the line. Is their relationship going to improve?
Loved Faramir closing the door in Aragorn's face. That was hilarious. :)
Author's reply
ahh, Lothiriel's gonna make a brief appearance. She's not an ass like her father. lol, yeah, Eomer likes Faramir a lot. More so as time goes on. Thanks, by the way, for reviewing! Makes my boring day interesting ;)

I think Faramir should tell Eomer off. Eomer's just being a prick. :D Even better, if Faramir can do it hungover, half asleep, and in Rohirric.....
Author's reply
LOL! That would be awesome, unfortunately Faramir's not to that stage yet and Eomer's not really there to beat him to a pulp...yet ;)

And now Faramir will pay for his night with the boys :) You're very mean to leave us on the edge like that! I really enjoyed this chapter and as always can't wait for the next one. Great work!
PS I really wouldn't want Eomer (sp?) that angry with me.
Author's reply
Thanks! Spring Break held me up all last week, but this week it's business as usual--hopefully a chapter a day. I've already gotten major portions of this story worked out in my head, it's just writing it! (the fact that new material keeps being added (thanks to EomerMuse, FaramirMuse)is just making it better))
Alas for me, this story has gone on far far beyond it's simple beginnings....hopefully to a better end ;)

I feel sorry for the person who's going to have to wash the wall........
Such a vivid dream for a drunk man to have. I'm assuming, seeing as how Faramir is a bit of a seer, that it's a glimpse of his future? Too bad he doesn't have any time to sort it out before Eomer punds him into the ground! :D
Author's reply
I like to think of it as a possible future. LOL, yeah, poor people who live in that house :D

He forgot Éowyn! Oh he is so toast! Both Éowyn and Eomer are gonna kill him!
Poor Éowyn, she was screwing up her courage to confide in Faramir and he didn't show up. Now she'll build walls around her heart and not trust him as easily (if it could have been considered easy before)
Oh, The course of true love never did run smooth:)

Okay, now I understand what you meant in your reply about Faramir being not the only one to forget his date with Éowyn. Must reread the story and find that passage ... But thanks for the lesson in Rohirric/Old English. Very educating! And my sympathies for those Rohirrim taking over the plot. Sounds vaguely familiar to me. But they are a likeable bunch (and, for the most part, completely unaware as to the identity of their new companion).
And now poor Faramir is in for a nasty headache (probably in league with a queasy stomach) and a vicous scolding from both Éowyn and Éomer. That is, if he manages to figure out how to get home :) Is there another council meeting scheduled for the next day? That would be most cruel for Faramir to endure (and, given the wicked streak that Aragorn has displayed so far in this story, I am not entirely sure that the mischievous side of the King would not get the better of him once he learned of his steward's ... condition ...)
EomerofEastfold
· 18 March 2004
Uh-oh, he's in trouble. Instead of meeting Eowyn he went out and got drunk. At least he learned a little bit of Rohirric, so he might understand the verbal thrashing Eowyn AND Eomer are likely to give him. :)
I only wish I knew all the grammer rules associated with Rohirric.

After that endless council meeting, Faramir has certainly earned himself a nice relaxed evening. And if he learns some Rohirric in the course of said evening ... all the better. Though I do fear that he might regret engaging in a rohirric drinking game in the morning (and I wonder how much of this nights ... err ... lessons ... he will be able to remember in the morning).
As far as the previous chapter is concerned, I must say that Éomer went to great pains to ensure that Faramir got enough time off to be introduced to Rohan and its ways. Though I doubt that Éomer attended that endless meeting only for that purpose. To see Faramir (and probably some of the other attendants) squirm beneath his gaze must have been a source of great amusement for him (and to see his fellow King suffer those councilors as well). But, somehow, I got the impression that the incompetence of those councilors was, at least in parts, a well thought out act. By dragging out the meeting as they did, Aragorn and Faramir would have given their consent to (almost) everything only to be done with the meeting!
Again, I wonder what Faramir will discover about the real nature of Minas Tirith's state of disrepair ...
As you can see, just in case I have not yet told you so, I really enjoy your story and continue to enjoy it. I love the combination of humour (and no small amount of that!) with what appears to become a full blown political intrigue and the problem Our Favourite Heroes face in adjusting to their new stations.

Thanks! Your continuing reviews are part of what's speeding me along. Ahh, but I had something in store for later in the evening that NO ONE seems to remember, including Faramir himself. Unfortunately, Halorl (while he's teaching Faramir some Rohirric and helping him make friends that will be incredibly helpful later in Rohan) is not helping Faramir TONIGHT. This actually wasn't my plan...Halorl and the Rohirrim boys came from out of nowhere and essentially kidnapped Faramir. They literally couldn't wait to get to know him!--to the extent that Halorl (with the grin outside the council door) did a 360 with his character. He wasn't supposed to like Faramir!! (in fact, I can't get a darn one of my OC Rohirrim to be snarky to him, its infuriating. possibly Peohl will cooperate...)
The council--some devious, devious old men. Eomer will help deal with them; he's bored and he wants Faramir's undivided attention in Rohan. But, alas, the next two chapters are going to send our favorite Rohirrim into a FURY because of what Faramir forgot. Hehe. Angst!
p.s.---the "f" and "r" keys are wearing out on my keyboard ;)

You seem to be on the fast track to learning Rohirric, and it's helping me out, too. :) But shoot, every time I get around to being able to leave a review, you put another chapter up and I forget about it. So, let's try to recap.
I thought for certain the rider heading toward Eowyn and Faramir would be Eomer, but it wasn't. It seemed the perfect time for a verbal onslaught, too. :)
Elessar seemed a bit OOC at first, but seeing how annoying those councilers are, it's well placed OOC. I'd jump out the window if I had to spend hours in a room listening to other people argue.
I've got to work on my Rohirric so I don't have to rely on the translations so much. I'm very grateful you found the word for ale. I've been looking for that one for a while. :)
Author's reply
I contimplated the rider being Eomer, but he was in the meeting discovering things. Verbal onslaughts and possibly some pushing around and swords to Faramir's throat will occur....our poor Gondor boy, he's forgotten something rather important from a chapter or two ago. Ahh, well, Eomer likes him (secretly) and won't kill him....yet... ;)

YAY! You updated quickly! I hope you'll do that again soon.
Oh lord now there are drinking games! Poor Faramir! I really am enjoying reading this. I can't wait to see what's next. :)
Author's reply
I'll be writing a few (hopefully) more chapters today. Hehe, the Rohirrim boys are seducing me away from my English paper...such charmers. Halorl and Gaer will be rather important to this story and the drinking game ;)

I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying this. I can't wait for more. I'm excited to see if Eowyn is alble to level with Faramir or if she chickens out. I also can't wait to see what Eomer has in store for Faramir.
Author's reply
Thanks! Eowyn will talk to Faramir, eventually...he's just got to do a bad thing first that does help him in the long run with Eomer. Unfortunately its shaping up to be a LONG RUN. I don't own this story, it owns me, evidenced by the fact that I dreamt about the next few chapters. :)

Did you not promise some grim turns in your answer to my last review? Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read about Aragorn's desperate flight from his very own council chamber. Hilarious, absolutely hilarious! Can't wait to read more about that council meeting (and, of course, Éomer's reaction to Minas Tirith's nobles and their squabbling).
Author's reply
LOL. Whoops. I was thinking of the next few chapters...which, actually, will have funny parts too. The council is next, it'll be a long time until we get back to Eowyn, much less her and Faramir's talk. Eomer is going to cause quite a stir...;) He just loves doing that.

Again, sorry for not reviewing on a regular basis, but rest assured that I still enjoy your story. Though the latest chapter has adressed more serious matters, it is the more believable for that. Faramir and Éowyn don't know each other too well. That not only becomes evident in Faramir's lack of knowledge about the customs of Rohan (and Éomer's shameless exploit of it), but also in Éowyn's unease around the noble ladies of Gondor and a thorough homesickness on her part. There is much that both of them have to adjust to. But as long as Merry keeps them company I am quite hopeful that matters don't become too grim :-)

Thanks so much for continuing to review, no matter how late. ;) Personally, I love my story...but still, it's great to hear others do too! Unfortunately, this story will take several grim turns(it's Faramir's fault, I swear, he keeps bringing it up) but of course it has a happy ending...though...Tolkien never really said it did...;)

Hmmmm, and here we all though Eowyn to be completely taken by Faramir, and now she's having doubts about leaving Rohan behind to be with him. Interesting, and quite understandable. Please keep going. :)
Author's reply
Eowyn's doubts are going to increase. I felt that in the books Faramir was much more ready for this than Eowyn and she was warmer to him when she thought it was all about to end. This story really came to me one day when I was thinking about Theoden's funeral feast and when she tells Aragorn to wish her happiness--I sensed something there wasn't perfect and that there was more about her and Faramir. Oh, well, I'm rambling. Thanks for reviewing!

Sorry for not reviewing the previous chapter separately. It was hilarious, as always. Merry's contest of wills with Faramir's Rohirrim guard was priceless. And I wonder whether it was the Hobbits' idea to make sure that Faramir behaves like a gentleman in Éowyn's presence or whether it was Éowyn's idea herself. Anyway, nice twist and surely not what Éomer had in mind. But being the King of Rohan does not mean he will always get what he wants ;-)
Now for the latest chapter. I like the more romantic turn the story takes towards the end of the chapter. The opening sequence in the stables was great. Éowyn's attempt to keep a straight face at the stable master's words that must have been bordering on an insult to the Lady of Rohan. But Faramir's idea to take a look at their future home, if only from a distance, was really lovely, though Éowyn seems a bit overwhelmed. But they still have Merry to keep them grounded.

I am enjoying this story way too much :D This is -just- the Faramir/Eowyn story I have been wanting to read! It's too enjoyable for words and written pretty well too :) Hmm...what kind of challenges will Eomer put Faramir through...looking forward to that.

Lol, this is all too hilarious! And I see you've learned some Rohirric! Silly me, I was busy translating the words I didn't know as I was going along, not thinking to look at the bottom of the page. You must be using a differnt dialect of Old English, though, because some of the words I could not find in my dictionary. Oh well. Do write more! :)

thanks. btw, if you see any glaring errors in the future uses of the language (what you can translate) let me know! i'd rather be correct than anything. thanks for the continued reviews--they make my day! (sad little lotr obsessed me :))

Éomer is having way too much fun at Faramir's expenses. Though I am more than aware of Faramir's devotion to Éowyn, I hope he will get some kind of revenge, someday.
