This was so much fun! There were so many times I just had to laugh out loud. The banter was so true to form. Especially funny was Gimli telling Legolas how easily elves cry: "You want proof? Very well! Two words: Arda. Marred. There! See! I need only speak the words and you get all teary-eyed." ROTFLMAO! That was hilarious.
I was charmed by Legolas's fear of holding the baby, and his amazement of it, but even more so by their seriousness in their 'mission.' They thought they were being so quiet! "Why do you suppose that is, Gimli? Should she not have completed this task by now and had us skinned and drained of blood simultaneously?" LOL
The narration added a great touch, gave it that storytelling feel, which was so appropriate for the story.
Great job in characterizing that nurse too. I loved when Gimli said "if he cries the nurse will come and we will be in a world of trouble for she will claim we are vermin and should not be housed in the same structure as him, let alone be in his nursery at four in the morning." Oh, dear, this is too much. I also really appreciated the image of the gift and all the symbolism it held. Good choice.
More favorite lines:
"Uncle Legolas. And I am not annoying."
"Have you not a horse that needs tending? Hold that." LOL!
"Is there an echo here? Speak to him, Elf!"
just terrific!!

LOL! This is great. I love the banter - perfect characterisation.
Fave line:
Gimli: "It cannot be helped. You are like a song I cannot get out of my head. Better to sing along than to try to ignore you, for as irritating as you are, you do not go away!"
This is a wonderful line - it shows how much Gimli really loves Legolas, despite the sarcasm.

That was pretty hilarious. So, so, so glad Arwen fired the witch.

sorry, that was supposed to be "about Legolas telling the story about Gimli's snoring"...not Gimli's story...

hehehe...
you're rite, this really isn't the way you usually write, but it fits this story perfectly involving the author like they really are telling it to you...kind of like Roald Dahl...sort of...maybe...at least to me it is!
persnickity...i luv that word...i've heard it before somewhere...hehe, persnickity...
the long lines of elvish are great, i'd never be able to put together a sentence that made sense if my life depended on it...and i just luv reading them ovre and over again, they sound so nice even if what they mean isn't as nice as it sounds...though there was one line you left untranslated(when Legolas started telling the story about Gimli's story) i was nice to be able to know what it meant rite after i read it too, nt have to scroll down to the bottom to find a translation or wait til i got to the end only to find that i've forgottne where i even red that...ack!
well, enough rambling! it was great to read more of your work, keep it coming! sorry i didn't get to the story earlier, the past weeks were kinda hectic...HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!...hopefully this review will suffice for your birthday gift!!!...btw, loved the pin that Legolas and Gimli gave to Eldarion, truly the perfect gift...
lotza luv,

Charming! And richly told. I wonder if it might not work just as well withouth the exposition and only as a dialog piece? I found both parts entertaining, but I think the dialog told the story better and more cleverly. It could stand on its own.

Happy Birthday, Ithilien! (and Nightwing :D). This was a fun little story. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue - Legolas and Gimli banter in this style is a lot of fun. I also enjoyed Aragorn and Awen listening to them - I had rather suspected those loud voices would be heard, and likely, expected.
Hope you had a great day.

I loved this, Ithilien! Simply delightful. The tone of the narrator, the bickering banter between elf and dwarf. This was a joy!
(I'm glad Eldarion told Arwen about the nurse. She truly was a danger to the household's peace.)
Excellent job!

I liked it, but at the beginning the tone didn't quite work. It seemed like you were trying too hard. It got better after the garden scene, and the end was great.

Wow, that was absolutely lovely! Legolas' nervousness around the child, Gimli's confidence, and, best of all, the description of Eldarion's face as he prepared to make his discomfort known. Not to mention the pair's reaction to the contents of Eldarion's diapers *grin*. And, as a positive side-effect (apart from the royal couple deciding to find another nurse), Arwen and Aragorn get some well-deserved rest.
As I said before, lovely, absolutely lovely!
And Happy Birthday to both you and Nightwing!

Very well done! I certainly am satisfied. The way this story was written reminded me of how "The Hobbit" was written, and I enjoyed that touch. And any story about Legolas and Gimli is always a joy to read. Fabulous work, and happy birthday to both of you!

This amused me greatly. I particularly loved the conversations between Legolas and Gimli. Legolas's wonder at the baby seems consistent for a creature from a race that has few children, and Gimli seems more practical but just as loving. How lucky Eldarion is to have them!
