O Pearl... somehow I missed this one. I was idly going back through Marigold's "Best Bets" and found it, and followed the link, and was bowled over. You are an incredible storyteller, taking us right inside the character's head. Great job!

Wow. Excelant! Keep writing! So sad, but you defiantly captured Pippin! Amazing!
Aloysius · 2 May 2004 · Chapter 1: Pippin's Crucible
Wow. This is amazing - a masterful exploration of what Pippin must have experienced in his run through the city. That last line really got me - very effective. Alo

I read this a while back, but guess never reviewed it. This story just blew my mind! Tolkien never went into detail about a lot of thing (or else the trilogy would be two thousand pages ;), but this really shined a light on what the destruction in Minas Tirth and it was especially detail because it was through Pippin's perspective. The dead eyes was a creepy part to get through. It's hard for me to conceive that this is a war just like anyother...it made me feel like I was reading about WWII or something else. Wonderful piece of work...

Oh this is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. It brought through the trueness of how much Pippin grew that dreadful day. I loved the last line.
Kichi · 16 February 2004 · Chapter 1: Pippin's Crucible
man this is really good. I never really thought about what Pippin and Merry went through. A little at any rate but I'm glad I read this it was really good and I felt bad for Pippin cause I would have been freaking out to have to climb over a pile of dead bodies, I'd be scared shitless to have all that fighting going on around me, let alone to have to fight!

I am quite speechless. Excuse me while I pick up the pieces of my heart and find a box of kleenex. This was truly beautiful, in that awful, horribly sad way. What I mean is that your writing is beautiful, and that the story is horribly traumatic, which is a very odd combination to read. I especially liked the part about the eyes and the feet. I can empathize with the eyes, but only shudder in horror about what it must have been like to walk barefoot through something like that. Your story was exceptionally powerful. A pleasure and a heart breaker to read.

Thank you. Such a compliment, to be beautiful and horrible at the same time. I'm flattered, truly. I you're interested, I'll explain why more articulately. Email me at radicalmomssr@yahoo.com. Pearl Took

This was an excellent fic! I really enjoyed reading it, although it was sad. :P Not many people can pull of writing in 1st person. Great job!

Arwen Baggins · 22 January 2004 · Chapter 1: Pippin's Crucible
Creepy, very, very creepy. Especially the part about the dead eyes and what I imagine had to be puddles of blood. Yes, I'm sure Pippin's feet will never feel clean again after THAT experience! This story just gives me the chills...which is the mark of both a good writer and a good story.

I think I already replied, but will do so again. Thank you. I'm glad it was chilling, that was part of what I hoped to do. :) Pearl Took

Oh, wow. It's funny, I don't think I ever thought of how awful that journey to Gandalf would have been for our little brother. You've managed to incorperate every emotion that someone on that sort of mission would go through. Fantastic work! Angst, as well as beautiful romance - what else are you capable of? :)
Author's reply
He went through many dark things, yet didn't lose himself. A wonderful hobbit is our younger brother! What else am I capable of? I hope much, I fear little. Only time will tell. Thank you for responding. Pearl Took

Oh, my! Makes me want to cuddle Pippin and give him back his innocence. Well done, Pearl.
Author's reply
You may cuddle my little brother anytime. He's really a sensitive type who needs frequent cuddles. It is a shame that once innocence is lost, it can't be regained. But he has kept much of himself, including his humor! ;) Thank you, shirebound, for the time you spend reading and responding to so many people's stories, you are such an encourager to us all! :) Pearl Took

Wow. This is stunning. You really got into Pippin's head well, girl. The last line was especially powerful.

That was intense! I realized after I had read it that I had hardly been breating through the whole thing. I wish I could write like that. I felt like I was right there living it with him. All I can say is, "WOW!" I'm still breathless and on an adrenalin rush. Connie.

Grey Wonderer · 17 January 2004 · Chapter 1: Pippin's Crucible
I have never read anything like this anywhere! This was amazing. I felt like I was running along with Pippin. Your images were so clear and all of this done with but a small bit of dialogue from Gandalf. I am so impressed with that. If my characters don't speak, then I'm in big trouble! LOL Wonderful writing.

Thank you so much. I really wasn't sure it was as strong as I wanted it and it has been so good to find out it is. Thank you for all the encouraging comments. Pearl Took

Oh...Pearl....this is sooooo good! I feel every moment of panic, I feel his fear and apprehension as he runs through the streets. You are so gifted...especially when it comes to describing details such as this. Take your bow, Pearl--you've done a splendid job as usual! :-) Pippinfan
