"More than a few elves fainted upon hearing the news, Erestor included, much to Glorfindel’s amusement." ROFL!! That is hilarious. Loved this chapter, loved the entire fic. I LOVED Elrohir's reunion with Elrond! *cheers* And of course his reunion with Elladan. Great work! =D

Thanks Sparkx! Glad you liked it! Look! I finally figured out the review reply system! lol Anyone seen my brains?!
Hiro-tyre · 16 January 2004 · Chapter 5: When you Believe
Hmmm... Well, Lairwen... I... um... (Somewhere in the corner of my brain is a remote voice crying "Seek for the positive comments/ In the deep recesses of your mind they dwell/ From thence shall advice be given/ Fairer-worded than Morgul-spells/ Then you shall learn to speak kindly/ And no author shall spurn your hand/ As it types out reviews of profoundity/ Ai Elbereth! Don't make Lairewen mad!") Well... If I shall attempt to be brief, honest, tactful, encouraging, and somehow maintain my good graces in your sight, I shall have to learn to bend myself into a pretzel and eat myself. Here we go. No, Lairewen, I shall have to admit that I don't especially like this solution. It just... doesn't work for me. Probably most of all because there doesn't seem to be any clear reason for the Back-to-Gondolin thing. You imply that it is the will of the Valar, and thus the inexpicability of the action could be partially attributed to the None-Know-The-Minds-And-Counsels-of-the-Valar bit. I also gather that the point as you see it is that Elrohir was to foil all of the assasination attempts against the House of the Swan's Wing. It just seems to me that (hypothetically-realistically) there were probably other Elves in the guard of Idril that could have managed this out of loyalty, and not just foresight. Why would the Valar go to all of the trouble of pulling back one of their descendants from 5 000 years in the future to do this? I'm sorry, am I managing to sound rational and tactful? There goes the 'brief' bit. Aiya. The only other point that really bothered me: I applaud you for you willingness to take artistic liberties with the text. (A remote voice, faint but clear, calls "Not all AU's are badly done! Not all AU's are badly done!"). I shall therefore not go to great pains about pointing out your various liberties, since you undoubtedly know where they all are. I don't neccesarily approve of all the liberties you took; for example, how do you make "Gondolin, the Hidden city, the Impenetrable Rock, Whose GPS Coordinates NO Enemy Knew Until the Betrayal Of Maeglin, and Definately No Enemy Knew How To Get In Secretly For An Assasination Attempt, Ever, Full of Distrustful Elves Who Nearly Refused The Sister of the King Himself Entrance, Rather Than Let Anyone Into the City, Ever," fit in with your tale of Elrohir's easy acceptance into the walls? Forgive me for not offereing any potential changes. The only ones I can think up would entirely change the whole plotline of the fic, which I gather is not what you want to do. So, your own perogative. Change whatever you want! Sorry again. I'll stop now. Except for the good stuff. I like the way you write. Elrond/Elrohir/Elladan's reunion was very, very poingant. It was exceedingly well done. I especially liked the way Elladan initially refused to accept his Brother's state of Life. The bit where he opens his heart to Elrohir, and the sword clatters to the ground, Oh, YES! YES! YYAAAAYYYY!! Ah, yes, that was good. There were also a few touches everywhere that brought a smile to my face, such as: Elladan laughed as he was pulled along by Elrohir. His heart was light, his greatest wish had been granted, he was whole again. Whole and more. Yes, He thought as he ran into the gardens, towards a weeping willow that no longer cried, all was right with the world. What a lovely ending. I applaud you.
Author's reply
Hey. Hmmm, where to start? OK, first, I'm not upset. Not at all. Quite honestly, I knew the whole thing was a big risk. Kind of wish I'd thought of your idea actually! Your Silm knowledge is without fault and I can fully understand why you don't like it. Perhaps if I ever think of something better, I'll edit it! I am glad it wasn't all bad and I thank you for giving me the bad news first! It means a lot that you like the way I write, shows it wasn't a complete disaster! I know we didn't start off on the right foot, but I'm happy you still feel you can comment. I think it's a natural reaction - we all want to be told we're wonderful, no matter how hard we try to accept critisim! I hope we've both learned something from this, if we have, well, it was all worth it! (Jeeeze, would you listen to me!) I mean it when I say feel free to *tactfully! ;)* comment on any of my other fics , should you feel so inclined! Hum. Seems your habit of writing long reviews is rubbing off! Take Care, Lairewen

hi there, so glad to see Elrohir back, can not have only half of a pair of twins. Lord Elrond and Elladan are going to be so happy to see him. What did the Valar sent him back to do? looking forward to more
Iawen Londea · 12 January 2004 · Chapter 4: Miracles Happen
Elrohir lives!!! HE LIVES!!! And he is reunited with his father at the end! WAHOO! =D I love it. Great job, I was hoping Aragorn would find Elrohir alive. ~Iawen~
Jay of Lasgalen · 11 January 2004 · Chapter 4: Miracles Happen
I have to admit it, I'm confused. If Elrohir wasn't dead, where was he? What did happen to him? And where did he reappear from, only to get caught by orcs? I hope you'll explain everything in the next chapter! Jay
tmelange · 11 January 2004 · Chapter 4: Miracles Happen
Great continuation! I thought for a minute there that Elladan had had a psychotic episode and just *thought* he was his brother returned from the dead. Now that it seems that it really is Elrohir, I'm much interested to see how you explain everything. More soon, please.

Hiro-tyre · 8 January 2004 · Chapter 3: I Shall Be There
Augh. I'm sorry, Lairewen. I have a tendancy to lose my grip on tact, and be remorsefully left behind while it scampers off into the distance. I apologize for coming on as a flamer yesterday. I truly did not mean to criticize your story as harshly as I undoubtedly did. I was chiefly bothered by the fact that I had pegged this story as entirely AU, meaning that Elrohir was definately dead, and that he was not returning ever. After all, I reasoned, how could he spend a millenia away from home and still be alive? Even Elu Thingol was not away from his Teleri that long, and many of them were quite convinced that he was dead. So firmly convinced was I that when it appeared that Elrohir had indeed returned, I in my arrogance decided that since such an event was not possible, the fault must lie with you, the writer. And since my Tact tends to run off whilst I am distracted with Arrogance, I immediately posted a sizzling review. Please allow me the opportunity to attempt to rectify the situation. I shall indeed wait to read your next post, since I am obviously in no position to criticize the effectiveness of a plot-ploy not yet read. I shall respectfully maintain that a thousand years does seem rather long to be AWOL; rest assured that I am eager to see how you explain this. If I were to offer you a solution to what seems to me an implausible length of time, might I suggest that a mere century might suffice to provide a suitable period of quasi-death for Elrohir, and mourning for Elladan. This may conflict with the your plot developments and explaination of Elrohir's absence, in which case you are totally within your rights to ignore my suggestion. But- and here I must advocate the 100 year concept- it occurs to me that it is theoretically possible for an elf to be somehow detained from returning to his home and family for a century, especially if he could not escape from his captors, having been spirited off to some far distant-- An idea has just occurred to me. Perhaps Elrohir truly died, was reborn from Mandos in Valinor, returned over the sea and only recently fell in with the orcs. Yes...yes, that seems to me to be perfectly possible. Well, as far as the question of rebirth and return is known to me, although I would question the Valar's willingness to send a ship eastward on the Straight Way, and not west. Olorin and Curunir were the only exceptions to this ban since the world was bent, or so I believe. Still... If this turns out not to be the case, may I please keep my claim on this plot bunny? Anyway... what was I saying about 100 years? It doesn't matter. I still maintain that 'Okay' is not a perfectly suitable method of admitting one's aquiescence or wellbeing in Middle-earth. However, the issue of using appropriately formal language is one easily solved. All you need to do is not use contractions such as "don't" and "can't," say 'all right' instead of 'okay,' and attempt no modern slang. Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings as if it were translated from the Westron Red Book of Westmarch; thus, any slang of that age would have been difficult, if not impossible, to translate into modern slang. So, in keeping with this assumption, Tolkien adapted what may have been expressed as slang in M-E era into the normal, even formal language of today. Well, that was stuffy. I apologise. However, you did imply that when criticizing, the criticism must be well thought out, and accompanied with suggestions for improvement. *Winks cheekily* You've brought this upon yourself! I think that I have failed to make it clear to you how much I like this story. I especially loved the first two chapters, where Elladan was grieving all the time, but his love for Estel helped him through it. Your portrayal of that grief was very well done, and was a mighty success at tugging the heartstrings. Young Estel was absolutely adorable, and Elrond quite believable in his Father/Lord role. Your company of Rangers, and Estel's character as their leader, are likewise well done. I cannot wait to see more of these characters. Again, let me reiterize how sorry I am for giving you the wrong sort of review yesterday. I've had some issues with Tact and flames in the past, and I've been making a conscious effort to reform my ways. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to reading your next post.

Oh my gosh!!!!!! You took me totally by surprise!! I have been following your story, and I really like it, but I had just thought this was a new kind of story with only one twin! Wow! I really was shocked! I never expected it! Awesome! I can't wait for the next chapter! Hurry please! Still slightly dazed;) Lossenchristal

WHAT! How dare you leave it there! I demand the next chapter! I so called that Aragorn would find Elrohir, did I not! *maniacal cheering* Oh, btw, I loved what you added about Elrond still greiving as well. =D ~Sparx~

Oh, very nice! I was eyeing this story, hoping for something like this to happen. I do not like death fics, and so originally wasn't going to read more. But you have a great writing style and I kept looking at the story, hoping that somehow Elrohir would return (the fact that his body was never found planted that seed of hope). Anyway, I'm really enjoying your story and can't wait to see a reunion between the twins!

Yikes! I didn't see *that* coming! I did think you'd been a bit abrupt in letting Elladan be found like that before we knew he'd been captured - but still! Can Elrohir really be alive? Where has he been all this time? Or does Elladan think *he's* Elrohir? I'm intrigued, and puzzled. Please update soon! Jay

So... erm... rather AU, eh? That's okay. I really like this story.
paranoidangel · 29 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Brother Mine
I did like that - a nice bit of twins angst and Estel being all sweet and little and helping Elladan. I'm looking forward to reading more!
Jay of Lasgalen · 29 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Brother Mine
I've already read and reviewed this story on the Twins of Elrond site, but I'm delighted to see it here as well. And as one can never have too many reviews, I'll say it again. I love this story. I love angst, especially twin angst, and this fic has plenty. I like the simple plaque beneath the tree, and the idea of the two empty chairs was very moving. The only other thing I'd like to see is more details about the cave-in - maybe a flashback? I told you I love twin angst! Can't wait for the next part. Jay
