Very nice! I'm glad that Legolas has been found (well, and Thranduil of course, but he's not exactly been found by the searchers yet). It was really good of Elladan to want to go out again, even though he'd been seasick before. THAT takes courage! But I'm glad that he was able to help out without going on the boat after all. Really good story as always...I'm anxious to read more!

Author's reply

Thank you! And also for the help on sailing terms you gave me. They have both been found, and will shortly be reunited. It takes courage to face up to sea-sickness - and to speak to Elrond like that! Jay

Nikara · 25 December 2003 · Chapter 2: Rescue

They are both alive-hooray! Great chapter. I hope to see more soon!

Author's reply

Yes, they're alive - just. And more will come just as soon as I can finsh the final chapter. Jay

Suspense! Please hurry and continue this, I'm eager to see what happens next!

Author's reply

I love suspense and angst. Hope you like the next installment! Jay

Ai! Nearly drownded prince and king! But fortunately "nearly" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. That's a relief. Elladan was so noble to want to help with the lake search, but I'm glad he went to look on the shoreline with Celebrian and Arwen. If he had gone on the water again, he probably would have been sea-sick and of no use. Worse still, the twins' bond might have made Elrohir sea-sick as well. Then who would have spotted Legolas clinging to the boat? Poor Legolas, believing his father dead. And for the mother of the dead young sailor..... what a grievous way to face the rest of the winter. My heart goes out to her. :-( But in the midst of sadness, there is some humor. Loved little Tayla mistaking the elf king for a woman! I hope His Majesty never learns of her error. ;-) Looking forward to His Majesty's awakening and a father-son reunion! LKK

It's fascinating to see what other people can read into a chapter. I just intended Elladan to be courageous in wanting to help - but you're right, it could have upset Elrohir as well. And I might have Thranduil hear of Tayla's mistake - it will be fun to write his reaction! Jay

OOOO what a wonderful Christmas gift! Another chappy! :: sighs in contentment:: And another chapter filled to the brim with wonderful angst, and up to your usual level of utter brilliance :) I eagerly await more :)

Author's reply

It's a wonderful Christmas present to receive such a fulsome review! There's more angst ahead, but it's a Christmas story - so will have a happy ending. Jay

daw the minstrel · 24 December 2003 · Chapter 2: Rescue

I'm so relieved that you let them both be found in this chapter. Now to get Thranduil and Legolas back together and healed. I also liked the way you managed to get both twins involved in the search. And I see why you were asking about how long a person could be in cold water!

Author's reply

I couldn't finish this before Christmas. So at least they were both found in time - not too much angst. The reunion comes in chapter 4! Jay

Yuna_Dax · 23 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO rivetting work, absolutely rivetting! Poor Elladan, always the twin on the short end of the stick (which is quite the way I like it!). Ahhh the angst... the perfect Christmas prezzie!

Author's reply

As you know, I agree with you on the angst! There's more in the next chapter, too. (And the one after that, which I've nearly finished!) Jay

LKK · 23 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

Sea-sick elves, now that's an idea I had never considered before. And an even worse illness --- sea-sickness by proxy. The poor twins! But what's happened to the King and his son???? Very worried about them. :-( LKK

Author's reply

I like to think that the twins are close enough to share each other's feelings and emotions - but it's not always a very pleasant experience. And poor Legolas and Thranduil - they're not having much fun, either. Jay

Elena Tiriel · 23 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

What a terrific start! Your description of all the goods available surprised me. Who knew that they traded so widely? Rohan, yet! Wow! The twins' excitement was a joy... too bad about the seasickness... boy, can that RUIN your day! The cliffie is really evil... - Barbara

Author's reply

Cliffie? Evil? Me? Surely not! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story. I think Laketown could have been a busy trading place, so tried to think of all the things they would have. I sympathise with Elladan - I get sea-sick, too. Jay

Lairewen · 22 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

Ack! Nasty evil cliffie! Great story though, can't wait to see what happens to Legolas and Thranduil!

Author's reply

I like evil cliffies, it keeps people reading! At least you have some idea now of what's happened to them! Jay

Nikara · 22 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

Oh dear. Troubles a brewing. Great chapter, I can't wait to read more!

Author's reply

This is rather belated, but thanks for the review! I hope you like the rest so far. Jay

Nilmandra · 22 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

Bad Jay! A cliffhangar at christmas? I can see that Father Christmas knows of one naughty author who can expect to find coal in her stocking. I like the descriptions of Esgaroth and the shopping available. It is too easy to forget that of all the elven realms, Thranduil's likely had the most contact with men and dwarves! And poor Elladan....I had to read through the sea sickness part quickly as I am down with the flu...and that hit a bit too close to home :/

Author's reply

But what if I post the next chapter before Christmas? Will I get presents then? Like a new chapter of History Lessons? (I want to see if Elrohir's all right!) I'm sorry you're not feeling well - the twins send hugs and kisses your way. Hope you feel better soon. The ending of Mid Winter Gifts won't be too long in coming, and will be warm and fuzzy. Perhaps it will help! Jay

daw the minstrel · 22 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

Oh, Jay, a cliffhanger! This is a great beginning. I love the idea of all of them in Esgaroth together. And I liked the little details about the night market and the choices of gifts that Legolas makes. It was fortunate Elladan was sick really, because they turned back a little earlier.

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked the details of the market - I tried to make it sound 'Christmassy'. And poor Elladan - I didn't make him suffer for nothing, it was to give them an excuse to turn back before the storm hit. Jay

JastaElf · 22 December 2003 · Chapter 1: A Sailing Trip

What a neat beginning, Jay!! Poor Elrohir.... I can sympathize, tho. I love sailing, but if it gets rough I get sick as a DOG.... :-) but OMG, it's a cliffie!!!! Thranduil and Legolas and the deputy are not back.... eeep! Can't wait to see where you go with this!! Cheers, Jasta

Author's reply

Tut, tut, Jasta! Can't you tell the twins apart? It was Elladan who got sea-sick! Jay
