What a special day for Legolas. A time for bonding between father and son is always good. I hope nothing goes awry.

Guardian Angel of Wolves · 31 March 2006 · Chapter 8: Girith's Surprise

What a wonderful story! The perfect blend of sadness and healing! I applaude you. ;)

Call me an idiot; I didn't realize that the reviews were all exposed that way until I stumbled on the list by accident. I simply never went looking, and I always seem to be in a hurry so I don't notice things I should. I saw you had only this chapter left, so I finished it. I could use an editor myself about now. Very sweet story, very well done! I thank you again. Good wrap. I also liked seeing Elrond and Thranduil being friends. I'll read more soon.

One of the (many) things I like about this site is the review system, especially being able to reply so easily and quickly. I'm glad you liked this story - it's very angsty, but at least it had a happy ending - though Legolas and Thranduil will always miss Telparian.

Kalima · 8 March 2005 · Chapter 7: Healing

I am up reading what I think is one of your early ones. I can't find that list you provided me once about the order in which these should be read. And look! It is 2:47 in the morning here and once again, it is your fault I am remiss in my duties. I will not be able to function tomorrow and I have editing to do! Ownderful story. I cried and cried in the angsty parts. Before I had my children, I was much tougher. (They are 7 and 12, and I love them dearly.) Thranduil is just the kindest father. Don't we all wish everyone could have a Dad like that? Sweet touches. Young Legolas is reminding me of my own son. May I be as patient as Thranduil is. (Of course, this household is lacking in domestic help!) I;ll read more tomorrow. Thanks for writing.

2:47? ouch! Rather you than me - but it's not my fault if you can't get up in the morning! I always love to get a review for one of my older stories - it's great that people are still reading them! It was really important that Thranduil was a very good father in this story - I was so sick of the stories where he is an abusive drunk who beats Legolas :( When I have some time, I really must make a time-line of my tales, and add it to my bio - even I sometimes lose track of what happened when. Thanks for the review - now get some sleep!

What an incredibly sad and yet sweet tale. I died as you told us how Telparian had died and the reaction of husband and son to their loss. Great job.

Author's reply

I think this is perhaps the saddest of all my stories :( The sadness will linger for a long time, but they can move on together as long as they have each other.

Beautiful. Such a lovely day for Thranduil and Legolas. I loved the little story within a story about why the King never swims completely unclothed. :-) The wolfhound pup ending was adorable. This has been such a touching story all round, Jay. :-) LKK

Orophins Dottir · 21 December 2003 · Chapter 3: Rituals

Very much liked the ritual with the stones for the cairn and the memory for each. As you can see, I am busily (and happily) reading some of your stories!

Kage · 19 December 2003 · Chapter 8: Girith's Surprise

Lovely way to end this story. Btw, is there any way you can be bribed into writing the story behind that wolfcub incident?

LKK · 14 December 2003 · Chapter 5: Resolution

How sad for little Legolas to think Ada does not want him any more! Thank goodness, Thranduil was able to set him right. (I knew Thranduil wasn't bad. I just knew it! ... okay, so I was a *little* worried. But just a little.) This was a touching chapter, Jay. I got a painful lump in my throat reading Legolas' anguished answer. It was beautifully written.

LKK · 14 December 2003 · Chapter 4: Legolas

Legolas is so different from the bright sunny child who worked so arduously to refurbish for first bow for his new sister. How sad that grief and fear have forced him to build such a wall around himself. I understand why Elrond might wonder if Thranduil has turned violent towards Legolas. The King is grieving as well, and grief changes people. So Elrond must consider the possibility. But I can't ... I don't want ... to believe Elrond's right.

Author's reply

Thank you again for the review - poor Legolas is not coping well at all. But the next chapter is up, so you and Elrond will both get some answers. And you have to remember one thing - I don't *do* Evil!Thranduil. But I got fed up with stories where Legolas is abused by his father, and no one seems to notice or care. Jay

LKK · 11 December 2003 · Chapter 3: Rituals

Pathos and humor. And you do both so well, Jay. What a beautifully bittersweet funeral ceremony, you depicted. My breath caught when I read little Legolas' lament that he will never know the end of his naneth's last story. Thranduil's remembrances were all the more poignant for his simple listing of them. And yet, despite the pain, there is also light and laughter in the world. For the elves as they remember their beloved queen, and for us as we read one lord after another drugged by a concerned friend. A lovely chapter. LKK

LKK · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 2: Memories

People who know these things far better than I say that when a child loses a parent, his greatest fear is that he will lose the other parent as well. Very fitting then, that Legolas feels such a fear for Thranduil. And how close it came to that actually happening! But by being strong and continuing for Legolas' sake, perhaps Thranduil will find that he can be strong for his own sake too. At least, I hope this will happen. (I remember starting this story on another site, but I don't remember if I finished it or not. Even though this isn't one of your new stories, it's new to me for all practical purposes.) LKK

LKK · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Telparian And Lissuin

Brave Legolas. I was not nearly so brave or composed as he upon hearing of my mother's death and seeing her body. How wonderful that Legolas chose to give his baby sister one of his most beloved possessions. And that he worked so hard in secret to return the bow to like new condition, adding her name as its final glory. Poor Thranduil, torn between his own grief, elven tradition, and his young son's need. Very wise of him to realize that helping Legolas would also help himself. And that elven tradition was not as important as the young one who needs him so. LKK

daw the minstrel · 7 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Telparian And Lissuin

I reviewed this story at ff.net when it first came out but I feel compelled to say here again how much I like it. I'm glad you're posting it here too, Jay.

Bejai · 1 December 2003 · Chapter 1: Telparian And Lissuin

Dangit, that was a sad beginning. Sigh. I hate sad stories. I love sad stories. I've always been less fond of the Mirkwood elves then some others, but I must say that Thranduil and little Legolas and really growing on me; I blame such growing obsessions on authors like you and stories like this. (Like I need more LOTR things to obsess about. Ah, well, I wouldn't complain if I didn't love it so much.) Looking forward to more, though I suspect the journey will be hard on them.
