Oh please add a followup where Legolas is telling someone of how he did just that (while shooting arrows no less!) to win a battle and Beleg overhears.!

Author Reply: After he's home from the quest, you mean? LOL. That would be funny.

It's about time we met an elf who wasn't always so agreeable!! Thank you for introducing the 'rough necked' Beleg to us! He's the perfect one to tame those little imps! I'm adding 'Turgon-ish' to my vocabulary immediately - I love it! So much fun in the world you've created for Legolas... :-)

PS - I somehow sensed that Beleg would end up not being nearly as gruff as you portrayed him at the start! ;-) Though, I do like the way everyone is wary of him none-the-less!

Author Reply: You have just read the first story I ever wrote. Well, actually, I started "Prodigal Sons" and then wrote this in the middle of that. So occasionally, I look at this story and see how inept places in it are, and my finger hovers over the "delete" button. But I love it like a mother loves an ugly baby! So thanks for the kind words.

I was scrolling down the page to find another story to read and this one caught my eye! That was very funny and VERY entertaining. I have literally LOL'ed so many times my cat is giving me an annoyed look for disrupting his nap. First Snow, to me anyway, seems like a wonderful celebration. I love snow days! I live in southeastern Ohio so we don't always get a white winter, unfortunately.

I thought "The Maiden" was funny and thank goodness Legolas didn't call the shield that in front of Beleg. The background information about Oropher's shield was highly amusing too. He is one of my favorite characters even though we don't really know much about him. Oh yes...every time "watch this" is uttered you know mischief is about to follow!

What a nice little ficlet this was!

Author Reply: This was one of the first two stories I ever wrote. I was writing "Prodigal Sons" and stopped in the middle to write this. My sense of Ithilden's and Eilian's characters hadn't quite settled yet, but the writing fever was upon me. First time in my life, really, and I am not young. Glad you liked it .

I love this story it made me smile.I don't think that Beleg is as bad tempered as people are led to beleive.LOL Galathil

Author Reply: Thank you, Galathil. I suspect you're right about Beleg. :-)

I really enjoyed this story.

It's easy to picture three bored boys getting into this sort of mischief without considering the potential consequences (especially with the famously bad-tempered armorer). The Maidens and young Legolas's confusion over the name and his musings over the impoliteness of adults who refuse to explain their humour is wonderful.

There are a lot of little details that really add depth, like the polished crystal decorations being hung in the hall and the traditional festival greeting.

Author Reply: Thanks, Haleth.

I struggle to include details because I tend to rush things so. It's been a long struggle, but fortunately, I have a good beta who prods me to revise.

Your fic was recommended to me by several people and I am very glad they did so!

I truly enjoyed this tale of young Legolas and his friends and was laughing myself when I realized just what movie scene inspired the tale. Obviously, Legolas figured out how to deal with the end of the run down the stairs (hmmm, does that mean he did this more than once in spite of Beleg?).

This was so fun to read and I am looking forward to reading the rest of your stories.

May you live blessed,

Oh, this was just great! I like how they softened grouchy old Beleg (what a name *he* has to live up to!) The water balloons, the feast, the holiday of First Snow with its greeting (which we see used on Beleg!), are all just great. But the title says it all ;). The only jarring note was a bored elf, but then, elf children can't be *that* much different from little boys ;).

Author Reply: Holy cow! A review for the second story I ever wrote! How nice.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, MithLuin. I'd do somethings in this story differently now than I did three years three years ago, but I did have fun with this one. I have a son of my own and "Watch this!" always preceeded something incredibly stupid.

Absolutely wonderful, Daw! I struggled to place your "movie verse", UNTIL we came to sledding in the snow and I thought, "ah HA! This is where Legolas learns how to shield-surf!" :D Imagine my surprise to find just how MovieVerse you got! I love the gruff old shieldmaker, and good lord, boys will be boys! LOL

Wonderful story, Daw. I really liked it!

Author Reply: This is my only movie-verse story! I just couldn't resist. I couldn't believe no one else had written this first.

And indeed boys will be boys.

I'm glad it made you laugh. :-)

I remember having read this one on FF.Net. I was laughing my head off then, and now, so much later, I still find the story just as refreshing as it was at the first read. :)

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it, Soledad. This was one of the first two stories I ever wrote. (I wrote them at the same time.) And that being the case, I'm glad it holds up.

Gentle HobbitReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 10/8/2004
This was a lot of fun. So that is how Legolas came to be skilled at stair-surfing on a shield. Thanks for giving me a chuckle.

Author Reply: Glad you liked it, Gentle Hobbit. I amused myself in writing it. I wrote this story and "See the Stars" simultaneously as my very first stabs at fiction.
