A Light in Midwinter  by Mirkwoodmaiden 18 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: 2 on 2/13/2020
Yay, the King is coming!

Eirik is quite the charmer...

"a time to look back... to look forward... to the beginning of the light" -- I wrote my proto-Hobbits (long before the Shire was established) as having much the same attitude to the Solstice. It seems logical. But you have brought me a new thought to chew over: Elessar fought against the Darkness and brought the light back to the world. Indeed.

Oh! Oh! Beregond! My absolute favorite amongst the Men that JRRT described for us. How lovely to catch a glimpse of him here. I ought to have expected him to be nearby, but I wasn't thinking.

I love the way you write Faramir and Eowyn individually and together. Their well-earned joy leaps from the page.

(ooo, the description of the hobbits' first breakfast is making me hungry...) "I can't take him anywhere!" hahahaha!

Not a model to be followed. Could win the prize for understatement of the year.

Ah. Strider-the-healer is momentarily seen.

And a tug at the heart at mention of Boromir...

All in all, a completely satisfying respite from the busyness of the day!

Yes! Aragorn makes his appearance and I'm thinking he loves coming to Ithilien because he can relax a little. In Minas Tirith he must be "King Elessar" but in Ithilien while visiting Faramir and Eowyn he can be Strider a little bit more. But wherever he goes he will always be the "bringer of the light" and hope.

I do really like cheeky Eirik! He makes his first appearance in "Bound by Duty; Bound by Joy"

I think the Solstice probably could bring on reflection. The shortest day and the new light might have the effect of hope and new beginnings.

I love Beregond, as the Captain of the White Guard I figure he would be in and out of Faramir's home and seat of government. Wish his character hadn't ended up on the cutting room floor of ROTK.

So glad you like what I have done with Faramir and Eowyn. I just want them to be happy! I'm really happy that it is working!

Merry and Pippin are just so much fun to write. Cheeky little sods! :-)

Denethor has left too much of a mark on Faramir to ever be completely forgotten but Faramir is slowly healing from the damage caused by "that horrible man" as Eowyn calls him. Granted she is a little biased, but still!

There will be a little more of Aragorn the healer later on.

Boromir will of course forever be in Faramir's heart.

Thank you so much for the review! Yeah!!

P.S.
in reference to Archery in your Farry story, I first learn to shoot with a long bow in a Renaissance Archery guild! I loved it. I have also never quite warmed to a compound bow. The most technological I have ever gotten is shooting a take-down Recurve bow, which is fun but I also haven't shot in years. Would love to get back to it!

What an absolutely lovely chapter, from beginning to end.

Hello! Yeah! So glad you liked it! I said to myself that I wasn't going to refer to Faramir's sad past anymore but as I was writing this chapter it just flowed naturally. But it was a healing moment for him, I think. Onwards to the birth! Thanks for the review m'dear!

Laughing in delight! I love the relationships you trace here, the little bits of characterization here and there that bring your hobbits and Big People to life! This has been a lovely respite after a busy day, and I look forward to reading more.

So happy you have enjoyed this! I have had a really fun time writing it! Hobbits are fun to write! And I am having a particularly good time writing about Faramir and Eowyn being happily married! Thanks so much for the review! It is much appreciated!

he wants a chance to be a far better father than he had.

That would be such a natural longing for Faramir. And I know he will be.

Author Reply: So true! Faramir has the heart of a healer. So glad you liked it! My story "Proper care and feeding of a Lizard" has Faramir and Little Boromir having a fun afternoon! Thanks for reviewing!

these are not normal times

Indeed not, and it's wonderful that these good friends are able to help Faramir through it. It's too bad Sam isn't there -- he and Rosie have been through this so many times!

Thank you for being such a faithful reader and commenter upon my works. It means a great deal to me!

I find myself wanting to write happier stories these days. Faramir is discovering life beyond mere survival and existence...even if it means that Eowyn is dumping the occasional cup of wine on his head! LOL!

I thought about Sam and Rosie into this but Rosie was pregnant or tending little ones at this time in her story and I didn't think Sam wanted to go with her so they stayed in the Shire!

Glad you enjoyed this!

and Thanks again!

the gentle man who won her heart and given her a life beyond regret.

That's beautifully said.

As always, Thanks for the comments on all my stories. I love Faramir and Eowyn. It does my heart good to write happy things about them. Of course right now Eowyn is a bit emotional but she is after all with child. :-)

Hobbits in Ithilien, what a delight!

Author Reply: Shirebound!

Yup! Too much fun! And of course they spend much of their time in the kitchens! LOL :-)
