Nor Bid the Stars Farewell  by Levade 34 Review(s)

I like Meneldor and his willingness to help based on old friendships, and his explanation about the fate of their eaglet. Still not sure what the men are up to. Celebrian's thoughts show elven desire to hold on to beauty, to keep safe and same what they love.

And Thranduil and Celeborn are about to show up.

"Men are often destructive towards what they do not understand and what they fear." How true that is for all the beings in this story. Sometimes events come from fear and misunderstandings.

Poor Legolas. He is so unhappy and can see unhappiness. Hopefully he will make it out of his depression and see the beauty of the world again.

Now that Galadrial has informed Thranduil of what has happened to Legolas and Eilian will he also be joining us? A meeting of Thranduil and Celeborn would certainly be interesting.

I was very excited when Thranduil appeared. I love the guy, fierce and stubborn as he is.

Also, I always like hearing about how elf women like Celebrian were active and made things with their hands and used weapons in ways the ladies in lots of tales don't.

Elrohir's fear that a dragon will attack Imladris is interesting, since it's what Gandalf feared would happen if Smaug were allowed to live.

What sad knowledge:

Elrond knew from his own life that no one and nothing was perfect. Everyone let you down. Not because they wanted to, not because they didn't love you enough.

The knowledge that his child will grow up and leave is also sad but at least there are things to be glad about in a child's growth. Also, adolescence is nature's way of making it easier to see them go. :-)

Things are moving along. I look forward to seeing what happens.

You are right that a whole lot could go wrong! It's curious what the men were up to and it's interesting to see the relations between the Eagles and the men, something that was certainly mentioned in the hobbit. But I feel for Legolas and I really feel for Eilian, as he is so distressed Glorfindel had to keep him from killing someone! Things are really not well for the thranduilions ( you wouldn't believe what the dictation software on this iPad is doing to these names LOL). Elrond has arrived though, which usually sets things right in my world.

I have been reading this story and really enjoying your tale. Though I haven't been posting, the muses need feeding for such a good story.

I like your Glorfindel. He has a presence here that is wise and thoughtful but he has a difficult job trying to keep up with the twins. He may change his mind on taking them on journeys after this one. But what can one say to adventurous boys?

I am also loving that you are using Eilian in your story. I found DAW's stories when I first found SoA years ago and loved her family of Thrandulians. Eilian was one of my favorite characters, such a wood elf trying to do right in those troubled times. I still go back ever so often and reread one or two of her stories.

This chapter has some tense moments in it. Eilian trying to seek revenge on the men for shooting his brother while Glorfindel is trying to keep what peace there is. Describing the eagle and his landings shows his great size and strength. How the men thought they would wound or kill the bird is a bit mind boggling. Hopefully, Elrond will also help the blond man and can establish some kind of understanding with the men.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

Ah! And better than I'd looked for, with Celebrian coming also. Now, to see Legolas cared for and then the blond Man. And these farmers have much to learn about the Great Eagles.

The Men should have listened to their fellow and given over the complaint. Now--to hear Legolas's question or pronouncement and see Elrond arrive as soon as is possible!

Whew Levade,
I got drained just reading that chapter. Glorfindel may never leave Imladris again after this journey and poor Eilian is going to need a sedative.
Very well written mellon nin. A great job expressing everyone's emotions.

thank you for a great read....

ps. a leash around the dynamic duo may get you 10 minutes of peace and quiet.
lol
can't wait for the next chapter

"Don't give in to fear" is pretty good advice for life in general, I've found. One of the best pieces of advice an academic colleague ever gave me was "Be brave."

Glorfindel knows better than to trust that the twins "followed" Eilian like docile lambs. And once he finds his charges, I approve of the way he doesn't fool around. No arguing. Safe behind him first, then we'll talk.

I thought you did a good job of showing Eilian's emotional state. Bless Glorfindel for keeping things from escalating.

So much of what is called coincidence boils down to this: a concentrated group of acts orchestrated by the Unseen for the blind so that they might See

That line struck me partly because it's true and partly because it makes such a clear change of voice to Glorfindel's POV, which is by far, FAR, the wisest in this group.

I wasn't sure whether the men were baiting eagles or dragons. Neither one seemed like a good idea. But I didn't expect Legolas to be shot. I guess it's some comfort that Glorfindel didn't either.

I would very much like to know what Legolas wants to ask.
