The Ties that Bind  by daw the minstrel 23 Review(s)

Very enjoyable! Loved that it was really about Ithilden. *giggle*

Well since Dot is human, is not fitting she have a birthday every nine months or so? ;)

Author Reply: Dot's an Ithilden fan, so I tried to think of a story she'd like about him. I used to hesitate to write a story without Legolas in it, but I finally decided what the heck. Thranduil is there.

Poor Ithilden. He is so clueless about babies.

Oh that was enjoyable! Another good one! I bet Sarith won't try to seduce Ithilden anymore. And Ithilden doesn't have a clue how much of a handful Eilian will be. Pity. ;)
I enjoy reading your stories Daw and I can't wait to read the next one.
Sofia

Author Reply: Thanks, Sofia. Sarith is an idiot, and I expect Ithilden scared her so badly she hurried home and didn't come out for a long while. And I think you're right about Ithilden and baby Eilian. Ithilden is about to learn that babies and "normality" don't mix. LOL.

Thanks for the review.

Wow, that's fast!:0

Author Reply: Yes, indeed! I had a friend whose baby was born in the car on the way to the hospital, so it's possible even among humans. My own son took 31 hours to decide we'd both had enough. Typical!

Hi Daw! I really enjoyed this story, its a nice view into the world you've created. I like all the little side stories about parts of thier lives we havent been privy to. Hugs The Imp

Author Reply: Putting those side stories in is half the fun. Like Calith. He had to have had a first day at work some time. To my great good fortune, readers seem to enjoy seeing these things too.

Glad you liked it, Elflingimp.

Hi Daw,

Well, I love the way you write family relationships, and this story is no exception.

But Sarith is definitely not going to be Ithilden's wife, I see... much to the relief of them both! LOLOL!

And Eilian was in a hurry.... what else is new?

Well done, Daw! I always look forward to each and every story you gift us with.

- Barbara

Author Reply: This was fun to write. Even Lorellin knew Sarith was wrong, so very wrong, for Ithilden. She was dressed in baby clothes, for heaven's sake!

Eilian is about to demonstrate to Ithilden that life will never be "normal" again. :-)

Glad you liked it, ET. Thanks for the review.

Yes Ithilden, everything will be back to normal as soon as the baby is named....*snort* To paraphrase Nimloth, “You direct warriors, not elflings.” He is so clueless!

I love reading about Thranduil and Lorellin. She was his strength and together they were whole. I can't even begin to imagine the emptiness he must feel after her death. Their love shines through in your writings of them.

And what can one say about baby Eilian? Of course he has to be ornery and be born on a day other than the one his parents planned, right?!

Great story as usual. And perfect timing as I'm rereading your stories now!

Author Reply: Hey! Ithilden needs some sympathy! LOL. He's been an only child for a long time and he likes order. A baby is going to rock his world, especially this baby.

I found it interesting to think about what a married bond might be like when the wife was pregnant. They're bonded to one another and to the new baby. That must a completely absorbing experience.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Ces.

Lovely tale - I love the rapport between husband and wife. And Sarith is definitely not what Ithilden needs for a mate!

Author Reply: Sarith is so far out of her league, she doesn't even know what game is being played. In the meantime, Thranduil and Lorellin are concentrating on their bond with one another and the new baby. Ithilden must wonder if everyone but him has gone mad. :-)

Glad you liked it, Agape.

Yep, things'll get right back to normal, soon as that baby comes. That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time! Poor Ithilden. He's not used to his parents going la-la on him, and he sure as heck doesn't have a clue how the new baby is going to rearrange his life - for the next five hundred years or so. LOL.

Author Reply: Fortunately for Poor!Sinnarn, Ithilden had a couple of opportunities to learn about babies before he came along. I love it when Ithilden is clueless. :-)

Awwww! How sweet to see Eilian brought into the world. I enjoyed seeing all this from Ithilden's POV. He is quite a lovely OC. Well done as always. A nice addition to your ever growing collection. *grin*

Author Reply: Thank you, NiRi. I'm suspect Ithilden took a while to see this event as "sweet." The whole thing was way out of control, so far as he was concerned. LOL. But then, that's the way babies usually are.

Glad you liked it.

I knew it was Eilian they were expecting. I loved the part where Deler and Nithron were poking fun at Ithilden because he's clueless about babies lol. Everything will be back to normal, indeed. I imagine Eilian was quite the calm baby ;-)

I imagine Sarith was barely of age here; she's very naive and thinks that being the king's son entails him to have rights above everybody else--as if Ithilden would trust any other to command his troops! All I thought about when Gwalenial appeared was that Ithilden's wife was currently growing inside her, as Lorellin subtley (this time) matchmakes.

I also love how Thranduil and Lorellin are so into each other as they start to prepare for this new addition to the family! And quite a different experience from Ithilden also!

You can say one thing about Eilian living a little impusively on the wild side---but EILIAN never cut a dwarf's beard off just to show him who's boss (while doing a deadly sword-dance, might I add)! Thranduil's doings in his rebellious youth seem to be...well, calculating--while Eilian just seems to want impulsive fun. I really wish Eilian, Ithilden, and Legolas learn about that incident one day---I'm sure jaws will drop to the floor.

"As if he had the slightest control over what his mother did, Ithilden thought."

And I bet his being less-in-control is a real pain in his backside! Lol, poor Ithilden is just not use to it; well, perhaps he was with his mother...the only exception he'd allow! (As if he had any choice).

Anyways, daw, as always, I loved it! It's always a treat to see Lorellin, and even more interesting to see some sort of interactions before the youngest two came along.

Author Reply: Ithilden was an only child for a long time! When I thought about it, I thought maybe Eilian's birth was a shock for him, not so much because he has a sibling as because of the general chaos that babies tend to generate. Ithilden is not much in favor of chaos. :-)

I thought of Sarith as a big baby herself, someone who should be an adult, ready to care for the next generation but instead still wanting to be cared for herself. And yeah, she is totally clueless about Ithilden's sense of responsiblity.

Thranduil wishes me to tell you that stories of sword dancing and dwarf barbering are not to be passed along to his sons. :-)

Glad you enjoyed it, Nessie.
