What a poignant glimpse into that part of Thranduil's life. The emptions were very well handled and I especially liked the idea of the lover's 'secret' seals. Well done! Author Reply: Thank you, jenolas. I'm relieved that the emotions felt appropriate to you. I was concerned that they might have been over the top. It's a comfort to hear that they worked for you. The lovers' secret seals were one of those moments of inspiration that I really can't take credit for. Somewhere is a muse who deserves the credit, not me. :)

Oh, that was lovely, LKK, and quite unique. It is not often we get to see Thranduil with his nana. Very nicely done! Author Reply: Thank you for the review, Karri. I'm glad you liked the story. When the idea came to me that Oropher sent Thranduil the mysterious letter, it seemed only natural that the person who actually sent it was Thranduil's mother. Just as Thranduil said, if she didn't send it, I couldn't imagine who else would.

I'm so glad I persuaded you to write a response! This was great, but so very sad - to receive a letter from beyond the grave. I'm glad that Thranduil's mother did not fade away after Oropher's death, but elected to sail West - he will meet her again eventually. Another great response to the challenge - thank you! Jay Author Reply: I'm so glad you encouraged me to think about the challenge a second time, Jay. It was just what I needed to break the log jam. I just couldn't imagine Nethwen allowing herself to fade away. She had to have been a strong and sensible personality to be married to Oropher and to have raised Thranduil. I didn't think Nethwen would ultimately give in to her despair. Thanks for the review!

This is beautiful, and very moving. I had not thought before of what happened to Thranduil's mother, but this rings true to me. Lovely work. Thank you. Author Reply: Thank you, Lamiel. I haven't read too much about Thranduil's mother either. But when I realized that Thranduil's mysterious letter had come from Oropher, I knew that only his mother could have sent the letter. The rest just fell into place. I'm glad you liked the story.

That was lovely, LKK. It is so plausible. I felt the mourning of the Greenwood Elves, and the special sadness of the queen. But I notice that she still wants grandchildren! And she's right. They are a sign of hope for the future. Author Reply: Thank you, daw. After Oropher died, Nethwen knew that Thranduil and Miriel had to have children for the future. Although she didn't say so to Thranduil, that was the third reason she held off sailing West. She wanted to be sure the young king realized how important a child was to his people. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thank you for leaving me a note. :)
