The knighting ceremonies were excellent! Kinda makes me wish I were there, or that they had been each knighted at an event... ;-)

Author Reply: I suppose you recognized several elements of the ceremonies.8-D Having been to enough courts... Of course, Pippin's oath is the one I know by heart, but I had to do a little research to come up with Merry's.

Now that would be a cool event: hobbits! Maybe at the Great Court at Gulf Wars, LOL!

Very, very good. You do much better writing the members of the fellowship than I do. ;-)

Author Reply: Thank you very much, that is so kind of you. Where can I find some of your stories so I can judge for myself?

just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed reading this story, it was very entertaining. You did great with all the characters, and i loved the plot of the men, Aragorn, Eomer and Faramir trying to get something for the hobbits. liked the end part where Froda talks about Aragorn giving them his love.
looking forward to more from you

Author Reply: Thank you very much. I enjoyed the challenge of this story immensely, although it was a lot of work to keep in canon. I love to explore the relationship of Aragorn to the hobbits.

That was lovely! I loved the knighting ceremonies for Merry and Pippin, and the hobbits' joy when Frodo finally woke. Such a fun, happy and busy couple of days. And I love how you borrowed and adapted the dialogue from Many Meetings between Frodo and Gandalf. A wonderful story as always.

Author Reply: Thank you. Of course, we already had an oath for Pippin (which I scarcely had to look at, knowing it by heart, as it's the oath we use in our SCA kingdom)and I only had to adapt it to be for the King instead of the Steward; but I did a little research for Merry's so as to make it a bit different.

We are not told how Frodo spent the hours before Sam wakens, but I scarcely think he would have been kept from his cousins who had been waiting and watching so anxiously. And I wanted Merry to greet him first.

I thought perhaps Frodo might have a feeling of deja vu, waking after such a traumatic experience, similar to waking in Rivendell, so I thought adapting that little bit would show that.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the story.

A lovely story, really! I love the way you describes the relationship between the Hobbits, and between them and the others as well. It is touching to see how Aragorn, Eomer und Faramir try to repay them for all that they have done in a way they can't decline. And it is cute to see Aragorn neglect his duty for the sake of the Hobbits!

As this are the preliminary events to "A new reckoning", it is good to know how it led to this annual stipends! This is a very nice completion to the other story! It was worth the longer waiting for "A new reckoning"-updates!

Author Reply: Thank you very much. Aragorn and the others know they can never repay the hobbits, but that doesn't keep them from trying! And Aragorn would not really think of it as neglect--he puts the hobbits, especially Frodo at the top of his list of duties.

I did want this to fit in with Reckoning, so I'm glad you thought it was worth it.

The Fellowship's jealous of anyone else watching their hobbits! How adorable! I see Faramir found a good reason to spend time with Eowyn. Merry hugging Eomer was cute, and probably the only response Merry could think of at the moment. Good start, can't wait to read the rest.

Author Reply: I feel as though the Fellowship has formed its own little family, and the hobbits are the heart of it. They'd naturally be a bit possessive of them.

Well, he would probably take any chance he could get, and it was in a good cause.

As I said, Merry is a hobbit, after all. What else would a hobbit do if someone said they were their friend?

I'm glad you are enjoying it.

AH!!! Lovely! And what a wonderful gift for you to share this with us! This has joined my favorite gap-fillers ever. Thank you!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it. Wasn't it kind of JRRT to leave so many lovely little gaps for us to fill? 8-) Thanks for the nice review.

I just had to leave a review here too. I loved this one on the challenge sight and am very glad that you decided to post it here. I love the image of Pippin sitting on his bucket! I also love how you've taken things from the book and the movies and woven them together. You've filled in the gaps nicely. I enjoyed this very much.

Author Reply: Wow, that's incredibly nice of you to leave *two* reviews. I tried to imagine what they would have had Pip do, if Aragorn didn't want him to stand so long. Most of the seats would have been too large, and leaving his legs dangling over the edges wouldn't have done his knee any good. So, a bucket! 8-)
I'm so glad you enjoyed this.
