Avon's Drabbles  by Avon 4 Review(s)
LKKReviewed Chapter: 14 on 6/9/2004
Nice, Avon. I think you're right. You would have had hard a time pulling a drabble off with this, but it works fine as a double drabble. The ending was good. Merry seems the type to hide his deepest emotions behind a gentle reprimand.

Author Reply: Thanks, LKK. Yeah, I just couldn't squish it into a hundred words. Actually I'm finding the 100 word limit more and more frustrating lately - think I've been writing too many drabbles.

I had to think about the title of this drabble and its relation to the content. I can see that Merry is relishing the fact that for a little while at any rate someone else is keeping him and Pip safe. And yet he still can't surrender responsibility for Pip, right down to whether his face is dirty.

Author Reply: Hi Daw,
Yeah, I don't think I managed to get on paper what had hooked me. What I was trying to show was that Merry had suffered more during their hard times because he had had to see Pippin - little cousin Pippin - suffer, and now his enjoyment of their safety and comfort is much increased because Pippin is afe and has those comforts. I need sometime to look at this again and see if I can get more of that into it.

Cheers,

I don't care if your drabbles are single, double, or triple -- I love 'em all!

Author Reply: *grin* Thank you!

A happy author,

Ahhhh. This is lovely - and so true as a protector/protected relationship.

Author Reply: Thank you very much. I was writing this as a birthday gift (wouldn't be likely to write Merry off my own bat) and it took me while to find a 'hook'. Eventually Pippin and how Merry would have wanted to protect him was it.
