Avon! My new favorite-author-of-the-moment!!! :D lol!!

If this was your FIRST LOTR fic.... I am going to sit at your feet and beg for more!! WOW! I love your style, your perception of what the characters are thinking, and your verbage... ::sigh:: I should be so blessed to write half that well!

Thank you for sharing your talent with us here. I am now off to read more of your stories. I REALLY like your style. Keep up the good work!

Author Reply: *grin* Thanks. It is lovely to know that someone enjoys your stories. It's also *very* nice to get feedback on old stories - it is the most pleasant of surprises. Yep, Words was my first finished LOTR story - I wrote a few paragraphs of another that didn't work and then wrote this. This was one of the scenes that made me fall in love with LOTR when I saw it.

what great insight into Legolas's thoughts at this moment. I often thought what was going through his mind. Yes, yes, it's movieverse - but that's not a bad thing! It was a great moment and this is well-done!

Lovely, Avon. You have a strong talent for writing vignettes from a character's POV. And I like your take on Legolas' personality. Great job!

Author Reply: Thanks! It's not easy doing first person POV on someone who not isn't of your sex - he isn't of my species! ;-) I'm sure I do make him a little too soppy and human but I like him.

A nice rendition of the movie moment. I like the tie to Legolas's memories of other losses and fears. And I like the sense that he is Elven and feels different and yet, in the end, recognizes the tie he shares with his friend.

Author Reply: Thanks, Daw. I had read the books years and years ago without any huge impact, watched the first movie and was bored - watched the second movie and WHAM! instant obssession! It was scenes like that that did it for me - because I love friendship. I also have an abiding fascination with *why* certain lines in the movie are in Sindarin and others not, so I tried to provide some sort of explanation for that.

Oh, my! This is just wonderful. I have to highlight my favorite lines in this gem of a vignette:

"For all the years I’ve known this foolish mortal and for all the times I’ve seen him risk his pitiful handful of years I have never before truly feared him lost."

"We journeyed on in the darkness of a grief too desolate and empty even for song."

Thank you for sharing this.

Author Reply: Thanks a bunch! ;-) I love getting feedback of any sort and it's very nice to see what lines particularly worked. I must admit to a fondness for that grief line too.

Thanks again,

Avon!

I first read this on Henneth Annun. I thought it was wonderful, and having re-read here, I still think it is wonderful!

The writing is crisp and clear and conveyed the unspoken emotions of the scene so well. Just by looking at Legolas' face in that scene you can easily imagine this is what he is thinking.

It was a joy to read!

Author Reply: Thank you - I really appreciate people taking the time to leave feedback (something I've been guilty of not doing lately, I'm afraid). As this was my first ever LOTR fic I spent so long polishing and fussing with it I have no perspective left and can see mostly flaws but I still love it precisely because it was my first and I'm really pleased to see other enjoy it.

Thanks again,

Avon
