Very clever. It must be a great comfort to Pippin to have someone else there to whom he can speak about Frodo and Sam. Author Reply: Yeah, no doubt, it was. Pippin needed someone he could talk these things over with. At least, with Kevin there, he could do that. | |

| There is always this regret to be known by those who must fight, that they are too often forced to slay others in the defense of themselves and their fellows. I rejoice that he must not face Mordor's dreads this time--it is evil enough to face those who have taken Cair Andros. Author Reply: Yeah, no kidding! And it's hard on Kevin, living with the knowledge that he has killed another human being. Killing orcs hasn't been so bad for him; that's no different from killing a monster or a vicious animal.
