A Holiday Feast  by Larner 2 Review(s)

Garlands of grapes indeed! Garlands and gallons of gorgeous grapes :D I adore grapes, they're one of my favourite fruits! I can't have wine of course (antiseizure medications and all) but raisins were one of my go-to snacks as a little one, and I'm just as likely to scoop up a handful of grapes (if readily available) as anything else these days to munch on :)

They are, after all, what make California Raisins! :D (oh goodness, I used to have a California Raisins toy! lol! that must be so old, I wonder if I still have it...anyway!)

I wonder if Hobbits could make sparkling grape juice for the Hobbits who can't/don't like wine, or the little ones?

Is a "sultana" a certain kind of raisin? All this reading Harry Potter, and with British folk among my nearest and dearest and I still don't know!

Author Reply: Sultanas are raisins made from golden or green grapes as opposed to those made from red or black grapes we usually get. The British make a distinction we don't, although you can find "Golden Raisins" in even U.S. groceries that are the equivalent to sultanas.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Hobbits of the Shire had managed to come up with sparkling grape juice and cider for those who don't like alcohol and for children. I certainly have had clients who like it for celebrations since their medications also tend to preclude drinking real wine.

I was too old for the California Raisin toys, although my stepson once got a figure about an inch and a half high in his Christmas stocking one year. Heh! And one of my students came to class one year with a plush California Raisin toy, singing, "I heard it on the grape vine." I love grapes, as long as they aren't concord grapes, at least. Concord grapes tend to be too rich, I find. But if you ever have the chance to find some black manucca grapes, they make a wonderful wine! It can cause quite the mess when you run twenty-five pounds of them through the meat grinder rather than putting them in a vat and trampling on them, however....

Wonderful! I would raise my glass in tribute but already finished it.

Author Reply: I would raise a glass, too, if I weren't in bed! Heh! Thanks so! See you the end of the month.
