Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 85 on 11/16/2014
Nice to watch Legolas going through his first day, learning some basics and meeting the Three Amigos. His casual reference to their age left me rather shocked, to be honest. I know they are a few ages of the world old, but a hundred thousand is so much. Leaves one wondering how old Daeron and some others are.

Uh, Legolas needs to learn where it is safe to take someone down, or he will get himself killed, and I don't think he wants to deal with Námo (and vice versa). Besides, I doubt Dave will be too pleased.

Author Reply: It is hard to imagine the actual ages of some of these Elves, especially people like Daeron and Valandur, both of whom remember Cuiviénen, so that someone as ancient as Finrod or Glorfindel is considered a child in comparison. The mind truly boggles, but I thought it important to remind people just how old even the youngest of them are, at least those from Valinor.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Kitty. It's appreciated.

First day at work. Huh! The officers will either line up to partner with Legolas or they will run for the hills. I have the feeling being partnered with him will mean no nice quiet day at work. I liked the encounter with the Three Amigos. Shows that they have a relationship with Legolas that the reader isn't aware of, but it gives depth to the story.

Author Reply: You may be right about the other officers, obsidianj. We'll have to see how it goes and I imagined that most patrols will be quiet. We'll only hear about the exciting ones. Legolas, of course, probably knew the Three Amigos in Aman as they ran in the same royal crowd so to speak, but you do see something of their relationship here that isn't apparent in earlier chapters. I'm glad you felt it gives depth to the story. I try my best to make the characters as 3-dimensional as possible and make them as real as possible. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

You go Liam! Glad he is finding his way, and I think he will enjoy this. Not to sure what the other mortal's will think of elves becoming officers. Especially when they are so quick. Here is hoping no one gets jealous of all the attention the "newbie" is getting :/

In the mean time I think the majority of the mortal officers will get along with him and will be thrilled he is on their side. :D

Author Reply: Hi Laer. I'm sure those who are friends of the Elves will welcome the idea of Elves becoming police officers. We'll see how Liam handles the possible fallout of his "success" with the other officers soon.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

At least Lopez now has reason to realize that Legolas has some experience with patrols, even if the time was long, long ago in a kingdom far, far away.

(Key the Fairy Godmother singing "Give me a Hero!")

Author Reply: LOL! I'm sure Lopez was very happy to have Liam with him on his patrol. If nothing else, it made things interesting. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I very much appreciate it.

What was Officer Lopez going back for? What sort of repercussions is Legolas on the police force going to have?

Do you know why I got a false update alert last week? It was very disappointing.

~Eruherdiriel

Author Reply: Hi Eruherdiriel. Lopez went back for the police car which is parked a couple blocks away from where the prowler was apprehended. As for repercussions, you'll have to wait and see if there are any.

Sorry about the false update alert. I was making corrections on a later chapter and accidently hit "publish" instead of "preview". I try to be careful but sometimes...

Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Atto,

It's been another long period without any reviews from me. I'm sorry. :( Real Life has gotten in the way again and kicked me down hard. Root canal, VNS implant surgery (which interrupted the root canal procedure), amongst other things mean I haven't had my head on straight to think up a good review for Elf Academy, which nonetheless, I have been reading faithfully all along. It's just about the only thing keeping me sane.

The Elf Politics Mess-Up is giving me chills, btw - I wonder how divided the people of Wiseman really are on the Elf thing! Still, obviously the Valar are on the Elves' side here, I'm looking forward to what the Mortals of Wiseman will decide about the Elves in their midst - oh! And that clothing store! Yes, yes, they should buy it and hire Mortals!

I'm especially amazed by the triplets, especially how two of them are identical twins. I don't know all that much about triplets and I do wonder how the Three Amigos + Nell are going to take hearing about the new additions to the family growing by one!

Oh yes, CSI: Wiseman seems just about right for our intrepid Officer Prince here! I agree with everyone else. I especially liked Legolas calling the Three Amigos "Orclings"! It reminded me of some reviewers calling their little ones "orclings", as well as in mine and Emma's fics, elfling Thranduil's older cousin referring to him as "little orcling". Oh, and I did love Officer Orlando (hah!) "Lando" Lopez! More of him, please. :D

Please, don't think I've forgotten you or Elf Academy, Atya. It's just been a very rough RL ride, and I'm glad I'm finally collected enough to review. I've been cheering for the Elves all along. I wonder how things will go from here, especially with the prowler being one of the Elf-haters...

Tye-melin tenn'Ambar-metta,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Sorry to hear that real life has been such a drag. I'm glad you're doing better and that you are still enjoying the story.

I'm sure there are neighbors who are no longer speaking to one another over the Elf issue, but there you are. Politics of any flavor often brings the worse out of people who feel strongly about an issue or a candidate.

We'll see Officer Lopez later on, though he's not a major character here. We may see more of him in Elf Academy 4. I suspect he and Legolas will form a friendship that goes beyond being coworkers, but we'll have to see.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, hinya. It's very much appreciated. Tye-melin.

“Remember to breathe every once in a while,” he reminded the younger ellon.

I wonder if Finrod told himself that on his first day at the bookstore... OTOH, he (almost) always seems so calm and self-assured, it seems as if he takes (almost) everything in stride.

Huh. Learned something today. So "Adam-12" was referring to the day shift, was it? I used to love that show when I was little, along with reruns of Dragnet. Is Officer Prince perhaps going to become an old-cop-show fan?

And an Elf studying to become a lawyer... or several of them... could be a good idea at that. Perhaps inspiration will come in the form of old Perry Mason reruns -- those used to be on at noon both when I was a kid, and again years later when my children were little. They had a fascination for the show on sick days from school.

Author Reply: Hi Lindelea. Finrod always strikes me as very together in just about any situation he finds himself. I guess it comes from being a king where he has to always act as if he knows what he's doing even if he doesn't.

I never knew the about "1-Adam" either until I was doing research on the ten-code and such in preparation for this chapter. I loved that show as well and even the original Dragnet with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan. But I promise I won't have Legolas saying, "Just the facts, ma'am". LOL!

Daisy (Eirien) was a paralegal in Chicago before coming to Wiseman. Maybe she'll decide to go for her law degree. We'll have to see. And yes, Perry Mason was another favorite when I was growing up.

Thanks for the review. It's much appreciated.

Oh, that was fun! You really will have to do a spin off series of Prince of Wiseman : C.S.I.(Yeah, yeah, I know, too many bunnys in the hutch already!)

Loved the Orclings comment, my Orclings are apparently growing up fast, too fast if you ask me.

Legolas might try braiding his hair back, it might stay tidier longer with all the running about he is doing, just tying it back only works if you are not bouncing around.

How did the carving go, still got all your fingers I hope and no Tengwar!

Ah well off to get my tea and call S.S., maturing is a pain and signing up for Medicare is one of them!

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. It seems that everyone wants to see Wiseman: CSI. LOL!

I stole the orcling comment from you, in case you didn't know, but it seemed appropriate for Legolas to called the Three Amigos that.

I suspect that Legolas will indeed be putting his hair in warrior braids soon enough, for he will see himself as a warrior battling against the criminal element.

The carving went well. I'm seriously thinking of designing my own stencil with Tengwar for next year just for fun. Have to decide what to say, though. Well, I have a whole year.

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. Hugs back.

First day on the job and he's already making a name for himself with an arrest! Of course I'd expect no less. Glad he managed it without getting hurt or hurting someone else - that poor lady, how scary for her! I kind of wonder if Legolas is in for a bit of an earful from somebody about not being a little more careful with traffic, at this rate. Can't argue his effectiveness, though!

I cackled out loud at the "late for an appointment" excuse. That's so realistic! I still remember the story of the guy who said he ran from the cops just because he'd always wanted to try it.

Nice job with the 10 codes, I listen to them all day long on the scanner. You did great portraying that aspect of it, right down to the thing about only a few of them being used frequently. 10-50, car wrecks, are what I end up hearing the most. It's always fun to listen to the chases both on foot and in a car. Oh, I wonder if Legolas will get to be in a car chase!

Lopez seems like a really nice guy! I think he and Legolas will get along very well. CSI: Wiseman is coming together nicely. I'm so happy with these chapters following the prince's adventures! It's been so fantastic getting to see him step up and carry the action.

These last few chapters have been moving things forward quickly, I feel like you're building up to something and can't wait to find out if I'm right, hehe.

Superb job, wonderful writing as always! Hope you have a great fall week amid the New England autumn leaves! I've finally had to hang up my boogie board and stash my beach chair for the winter, but you've inspired me to check out some of the wooded national parks within driving distance.

Take care!
-Kevana

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. I'm sure when Michaelson learns about it he'll read him chapter and verse.

I'm glad I got the 10 codes right. I had several sources and they didn't always gel but most of the common codes were the same so I kept to them.

I'd been wanting to showcase Legolas for some time now but it wasn't until Dreamflower showed me her character sketch based on "Christmas at Edhellond" that I found the right vehicle for Legolas to shine. I've enjoyed writing him as a police officer and he'll be seen in several upcoming chapters engaged in other aspects of police work.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I very much appreciate it. Have a great week yourself.

What a first day! I enjoyed seeing Legolas' nervousness when he headed out, and the way he was put at ease by his first partner. I like Lando (funny that his first name should be "Orlando", isn't it? ;D)and his way of explaining things and putting Liam at ease.

The encounter with the Three Amigos was fun, and they'll enjoy teasing Nell for missing out on it. I loved Lando's reactions to the ages of Elves. These two will have a lot to learn from each other; I hope his future partners are as congenial. But I'm sure Dave will put a lot of thought into who he pairs up his valuable new recruit with!

I really liked them chasing down the prowler. Legolas' solicitousness for the woman in the car was cute (as was his calling her "my lady"--something she will enjoy telling her friends about once she's calmed down from her fright, I suspect). The crooks and bad guys of Wiseman had better watch out!

Author Reply: Hi Dreamflower. Even Elves can feel nervous, though they are probably pretty good at hiding it from Mortals if not from other Elves.

Legolas calling the woman in the car "my lady" is just a fallback to his own culture, of course. He hasn't yet learned proper mortal addresses, such as "ma'am" or "miss", but he'll learn soon enough.

And yes, I'm sure the word will be out soon among Wiseman's criminal element: watch out for the Elf cop! LOL!

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.
