Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 13 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 72 on 11/9/2014
Alex hasn't changed. Barely awake and already demanding to get out of the hospital – yeah, he sounds as if he's back to normal already. It's good to see him being better.

He didn't lose any time after seeing Felicity again, did he? *grin* At least something good came out of that whole disaster, then.

This was a nice, quiet, sweet chapter, good to unwind from all the excitement earlier.

Author Reply: We all need chapters like this, both the readers and me. LOL! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks, Kitty.

All right! Alex and Felicity are a couple!! K.I.S.S.I.N.G!

Things are starting to calm down, get somewhat back to normal insofar as events go. But I suspect that it is not going to be "normal" for several individuals for some time to come, especially for Alex until he takes Atar's advice and finds someone to talk to.

Now that Farrell is no longer a factor, I wonder about who will cause trouble next...

Author Reply: Yes, things are starting to calm down, though that doesn't mean they will stay that way for long. And define "normal". LOL!

We'll see who causes trouble next eventually. Thanks for reviewing, Dreamflower. I appreciate it.

Alex still hasn't learned patience. He is rather obnoxious to his visitors in the hospital. I can understand that he is not happy to be there, but that is no reason to snarl at everyone. I like the warm welcome he receives at Edhelhond. He should know now that the elves have his best interests at heart. This episode seems to have sped his affair with Felicity along. I don't think he can claim to go on "non-dates" with her now:-).

Author Reply: I'm afraid Alex doesn't make a very good patient and he's probably just angry at himself to be back in hospital. And I think he's decided life's way too short to fiddle about so he's willing to take the plunge into a relationship, so no more non-dates, just dates. *grin* Thanks for reviewing, obsidianj. I appreciate it.

Kyle just won major points with me for how he handled that.

"Should I be selling tickets?" That is not a bad idea, make some cash and cut down on the foot traffic. *grin* As often as you've been in the hospital, Alex, you could make some serious bank. I don't blame him, I get growly with folks when I'm not feeling well, too.

Narnia-time! That would be very disconcerting.

Aww, Alex and Felicity, sitting in a tree...with Elves in a nearby tree...but the Elves were nice enough to give them some privacy, heh. Honestly, they are the worst-kept secret in Wiseman.

"rushing in where angels fear to tread" - Alex could put that on his business cards. Er, if ex-intelligence officers had business cards.

Really will be interesting if we ever see Glorfindel and Alex compare notes on their experiences, it seemed to help Ingwion a lot in EI2 if I remember correctly.

-Kevana

Author Reply: Kyle is pretty cool and has very much redeemed himself, I think.

I don't think too many people really understand what "timeless" really means, so I thought it would be fun to stick in a discussion about it here, just to give everyone migraines. *LOL!

Anyway, we may see Glorfindel and Alex comparing notes later in EA4. I think Alex needs a little time to process what's been happening to him first before he's really able to talk about it to anyone.

As for the worst-kept secret in Wiseman... well, we'll see how that goes as well.

Thanks for commenting, Kevana. It's appreciated.

Oh, to be pampered by elves. That would be heavenly. "Sighs"

Author Reply: Yes, it would be, Tari. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you doing so very much.

Lovely chapter. Glad Alex and Felicity had a good kiss. Helps clear the air. Poor Alex has had a rough time. Ready to see what happens next to the poor guy. On the other hand, he needs to learn to not try to do everything by himself. Thanks.

Author Reply: HI UTfrog. Alex has indeed had a rough time, but hopefully things will calm down for him for a bit. He does need to learn that he can't do everything by himself anymore. That is the lesson he needs to take from this latest episode. We'll see how good a learner he is. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

I had forgotten, Alex has classes to take and to teach. This is going to play havoc with that.

Alex just makes me smile. That first bit was very characteristic. Though, I must admit I don't have to deal with him.
~Eruherdiriel

Author Reply: Hi Eruherdiriel. A little bit of havoc but he'll get back into the groove of things soon enough. I'm glad Alex makes you smile. He's a fun character. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

It will be interesting to see Glorfindel and Alex comparing notes, I must say. Love that he's getting to the good part with Felicity so quickly--I suspect he's been advised that he needs to do what he can while he can in the time allotted to him.

Author Reply: Hi Larner. Yes, it will be interesting to see the two comparing notes. We probably won't see that happening in this story but possibly in EA4. And I suspect that Alex realizes after this that life is indeed too short to waste, so he's taking the plunge with Felicity. Hopefully it will work out for them both. We'll have to see. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

I remember a few years ago, here in my part of the world, where we can have some pretty stiff winters, a news story. It seems that some quite small child, only a year and a half-two or so, got out of his house unnoticed in the dead of winter. Somehow, he was able to get around or over the fence to the family's pool and fall in. A short time later, maybe fifteen minutes if I remember right, he was found, face down in the pool. After some time in the hospital, little one made a full recovery, and even seemed to have no memory of the incident. His doctors speculated that since the water was so cold, his brain and vital functions were shut down instantly. No brain damage, even with little oxygen, he was in hibernation. Farrell is not as resilient as a child to be sure. But they BOTH went into the Tarn, for Atar's purposes. I DO NOT think we have seen the last of him. I DO think that he may need more time, and may be visiting with any number of people I could think of. He may need a lot of convincing that his experience is real.

Author Reply: Hi Demeter d. There have been similar stories like the one you described so what happened with Alex and Farrell isn't beyond the realm of possibility and an Alaskan tarn would be way colder than a pool for sure. What happens to Farrell remains to be seen. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Best beloved indeed! It was good that Namo remained to remind Alex of his talk with Atar and that lone wolf tactics were no longer needed. It is frustrating when medical professionals talk about you when you are there as if you weren't there. But the gentler Alex was a much nicer guy the next day.

Even I got confused at first with the talk about the timeless halls. But I imagine it is like a revolving door, you go in one door but coming out the same door you are in a different place - or maybe not. LOL! The mathematical equations for that to exist would only be recognizable to a Valar and mathematics is definitely not my forte, so I will accept that it is.

Snogging on the couch! I think the non-girlfriend has had a promotion to more. Loverly. Felicity is good for Alex and I like the way you have developed her character. She will be able to handle all the elves as she does her classes, with style and grace. Hope we learn a little more of her background as we did with the priest.

I do hope that Glorfindel and Alex get to talk about talking to Atar. It would be good for Alex to see that he is there for a purpose and that all of the players are there to help each other.

Have a good weekend! I will bring fruit fried pies to the Cliff House. I am having an apple fried pie for supper tonight. The old fashioned ones without all the sugar and oil that people use nowadays.

Author Reply: I think Felicity has been promoted, too, rikki. *grin* I'm glad that you like her and the way her character has been developed. Hopefully we will learn more about her past though not necessarily in this story. It may have to wait until EA4.

Tolkien, of course, never describes the Timeless Halls, so I've pretty much have had to come up with my own descriptions about it and its relationship to our universe. I think Námo's explanation is about as scientific and mathematical as I want to get. I sort of borrowed it from Narnia, the idea that time runs differently between our world and other worlds in other universes and the same would hold true with regards to the Timeless Halls and just as there's no special correlation between there and here, neither is there a temporal one.

Anyway, hopefully Glorfindel and Alex will sit down sometime in the near future and compare notes. We'll have to see.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It's much appreciated.
