| I'm feeling bad for Alex; this whole thing has to be so confusing and embarrassing for him, losing control and attacking a friend like that and not even really knowing why. Uh oh. So we finally get to at least part of the reason why Alex is having so many problems. It sounds as if he never really got over this experience of having to kill that guy in order to get away alive. Never learning what exactly happened and why wouldn't help, either, I suspect. And if there is actually more to the story, who knows how bad it actually was. And I get the feeling the Agency never helped him cope with it, either. The way Alex is tapping into what happened with Finrod and his companions, however, is a bit disturbing. Awesome that it is even possible, yes, but still ... how do you handle something like that? Author Reply: Alex is all sorts of screwed-up and the Agency did a real number on him, as we see here. And of course it was bad, very bad what happened in Spain. As for Alex tapping into deep memories of the First Age, that's a whole 'nother ballgame, as they say. | Aw, poor Alex. He can never seem to catch a break. I really like Vorundur in this chapter; a shame that Alex still won't confide in him, I think it it would do him a lot of good to get it off his chest. Author Reply: Vorondur is way cool here. | Alex's time-traveling flashback reminded me of those berserker legends, too. Lots of ferocity, but also not noticing injuries and such until you've nearly dropped dead of blood loss - as dangerous to yourself as you are to others! Sadly a statement that could apply to Alex in general, I think. That Alex doesn't tell the whole story here makes his unconscious motivations for "rescuing" Finrod even more interesting. (And Ron continues to be his wonderfully wise self.) I rather hope Bregdal and Ron will get to reunite and that Alex might meet the guy at some point. Maybe it would help settle those puzzle pieces into place. If every Elf tracker/hunter is out there looking for Farrell and not finding him, it's a natural conclusion at this point that he has some help from above...er, below, rather...in what he's doing. There's just no way he could be *that* good. The question is, exactly who or what is helping him? Spooky. -Kevana Author Reply: Hi Kevana. It would be nice if Ron could be reunited with Bredgal and Alex could meet him in person. Perhaps that might happen some day. And you may be right about Farrell having help to elude the Elves, because, realistically, what Mortal could do so successfully? We may never know the answer definitely but we can sure guess. | Another Poor Alex chapter. The mind is a curious thing. You never know what connections are made and Alex surely has a lot of baggage on his own without racial memory. If this all gets mixed up... I don't want to know what this can do to your mind. That story in Spain sounds harrowing and there is more that Alex isn't telling, for now. At least that incident sounded like self-defense and not premeditated, but still. In light of what we know so far, he went down the road to the dark side from there on. The scream at the end sounds ominous. Luckily, I don't have to wait. The next chapter is already in my inbox. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Yes, the mind is indeed a curious thing and Alex has more baggage than most, as we have seen and will continue to see as the story progresses. | Things are getting more and more worse with Alex and his screaming at the end promises no good. He's been pretty messed up with his work for the agency and the whole situation he is in now, I fear Ron will be right and he will only become more dangerous. I love the way it takes more than his little act to unnerve Ron. Finrod's story is harrowing and it's small wonder it took him long be bore he got to terms with it after being reborn. Based on the comments,. it *could* just be that spider Alex is screaming for. Living together with a severe arachnophobian, it's sometimes hard to tell wether it's mediocre sized spider or someone just died! Author Reply: Hi FV_Whisper. Yes, things are getting worse for Alex and having lived with an arachnophobian myself I know what you mean, but I'm pretty sure a spider in the bath is not what's set Alex off. LOL! As for Ron, he's been around too long and is just too good to be unnerved by anything any Mortal would do. That's why I like writing him. He's just darn cool. Finrod's story is indeed harrowing and I'm sure it took him time to come to terms with what happened to him and his men. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much. | |

| I am beginning to think that Alex/Artemus belongs in a room with nice squishy walls, also just how long it would have been before something would have happened if he had not come to Wiseman and met the Elves. Those shrinks at the Agency did a piss poor job of watching his mental health and if they can't tell when some body is feeding them a line then they should not be doing what they are doing, or not doing, as the case my be! Was some body in the Agency out to get him? Alex/Artemus and Vorondur will get to the bottom of this, or at least as far as needed eventually but it is going to take time which Vorondur has but A/A doesn't. I think that once Ratty is dealt with things will ease up a bit but until then A/A will need careful handling. I hope Dan O.K. Interesting chapter. Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Dan's fine but putting him in healing sleep will accelerate the healing process more. He'll be right as rain in the morning. And I'm sure Alex/Artemus is thinking he belongs in a rubber room right about now, too. And yeah, the shrinks at the Agency obviously weren't on the ball if Artemus was able to feed them lines just to get on with his job. Oh well, it's probably even more true than not in the real world, which is why there are so many screwed up people out there. And yes, hopefully Alex and Ron will get to the bottom of all this. Just not too soon or there's no story. *grin* And hopefully, when Farrell is dealt with once and for all, Alex can concentrate on more important things, like having a life and a girlfriend and.... | The agency really did a number on Alex's psyche. That Ron mentioned that he was close to tripping over into the dark side is an indication that there are many things that have happened to him over the years that have tried to kill the goodness in Alex's soul. The agency in Spain could even had set up that confrontation in the garden to get Alex to the next level of their set up. That there was something else that happened with his first kill in that confrontation indicates that Alex was not ready for the dirtier side of the spy world. Ron has studied the human side of psychiatry very well. He had to invoke some strong commands to get Alex to tell of his time in Madrid, but he backed off from there and has left things to Alex to decide and determine where to go next. And I think we are at the crossroads of this matter if the scream at the end of this chapter is anything to by. Either that or Alex found a spider in the bath! Can't wait for Friday this time to see what happens. Headed up to the Cliff House to do some dusting and bake some breakfast squares. Have a good week! And you have an even more paranoid mind than I do in thinking that perhaps the Agency in Spain set all that up in the gardens. LOL! But really, it's not outside the realm of possibilities. And Ron has had oodles of time to study human psychiatry and psychology so he knows when to push and when to step away as he does here. And yeah, I'm sure Alex found a spider in the bath. LOL! | More psych stuff. Oh well, it's giving me hooks for a class this coming school year. Why was Edward less corrupted by his past than Alex? ~Eruherdiriel Author Reply: I'm afraid there's always going to be psych stuff in this story, Eruherdiriel, since we are exploring, among other things, the psychological pitfalls that both Mortals and Elves can fall into. At any rate, I'm glad you can take something from this for your real-life situations. As for Edward, I suspect it's because he wasn't used as an assassin by the Agency. He was in straightforward intelligence gathering and not much else. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it. | |
