Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 14 Review(s)
KittyReviewed Chapter: 39 on 6/24/2014
You know, someone should tell Gwyn that Derek and Alex tend to call Nįmo 'dude' as well, seeing how amazed they are that the twins use the name for Finrod *grin*

Another SCA group in Wiseman sounds like a good idea, and might be a good alternative for the Zombie Hunter Boot Camp idea, as that's not everyone's taste. And it's true that it would be good to have Mortals run it to make it less suspicious for certain people. Besides, it's something where they can have some fun as well. It's not just about fighting, as far as I can tell, but about trying to dress and behave appropriately and all that, right?

Author Reply: We won't be seeing much of the SCA in Wiseman during this story but hopefully we'll see some of it in EA4 as I think it would be something that readers will want to see happening. And you're right that the Zombie Hunter Boot Camp wouldn't appeal to everyone, nor should it, just as the SCA won't appeal to everyone, nor should it, but the two could complement one another and that's the important thing.

Thanks for leaving a review. It's appreciated.

Oh, oh, waiting for the arrival of Vorondur can't be fun. He doesn't sound to have calmed down from his email. I just hope whoever comes with him can keep things from exploding. Thanks for giving the background on the SCA. I'm not familiar with that organization, and it seems as if there is a lot of room for people who like to set up a bureaucracy with tons of rules and regulations. But it also seems to be a lot of fun.
Poor Gareth, he finally sees an ellith and she is already taken. Let's hope he doesn't have to wait another thousand years to find someone to marry *g*.

Author Reply: I'm sure by the time he gets to Fairbanks, Ron will be a lot calmer. We'll have to see.

While the SCA does have a bureaucracy it isn't too onerous. The trick is that the organization has to function under the rules of the country in which it finds itself, being an international organization, as well as under the rules of the organization itself. The bureaucracy is there to handle that particular headache while the rest of us just play. *grin* And it is a lot of fun as long as people don't take things too seriously and get too involved in politics. Knowing that not everyone would be familiar with the SCA I devoted a good part of the last couple of chapters giving some information for readers so they would know what's going on. If they want more information they can certainly look it up on the internet.

As for Gareth and also Gwyn, we'll just have to hope that that is the case.

Thanks for reviewing, obsidianj. I appreciate it.

I am really really looking forward to Vorondur's arrival. Glorfindel's too, but Papa Bear will no doubt have words to say. And of course, how things will turn out for the new brothers and the SCA.

On a serious note, something seems to be wrong with the site. Anything posted since some time on the 13th will show a chapter list, but I get an error if I try to open one of them. (internal server error) I hope the site has not been hacked as LOTR FF was.

Author Reply: Hi ainisarie. Yeah, it should be interesting to see how Vorondur acts when he finally catches up with the Twins and Serindė, as well as how everyone will react to meeting the ap Hywel brothers and learn about the SCA.

The problem you've encountered is sporadic and there's no rhyme or reason as to which stories you can access and which you cannot. It's been going on all week and there are plenty of complaints to Rorrah, so I have no doubt she's looking into the matter and will find a way to correct it, hopefully soon. I just hope my story can be accessed when I update tomorrow. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Hi! I've been lurking again but reading just as avidly as ever. But I have had to de-lurk to ask, 'how can the twins let Serende leave on her own even if it is just down the corridor to fetch ice? Ron will be more than angry if they lose her before he gets there. May be I am just being paranoid!

The piece of cliff that I have been sitting on has been getting rather lonely but I have had fun reading 'murder at the war' as recommended to pass the time.

Author Reply: Hi harrowcat. I think you're being a tad paranoid here, and Serindė is not completely defenseless. In Elf Academy 2 we see her helping Elrohir teach one of the unarmed defense classes. Also, they're aware of the fact that two Maiar are keeping watch, so they know Serindė is well protected.

I'm glad you are reading and enjoying the story. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

Busy days = no time to write a proper review :( Aw well, here we go at last!

“I can’t get over you calling the great Finrod Felagund ‘dude’. It sounds… irreverent or something,” Gwyn said, shaking his head.

Ah, childhood hero's...Either they sincerely disappoint when you'll eventually meet them, or they'll take a turn for the better. Let's hope for the bothers this will be the case with Finrod!

Poor Gareth on hearing Serindė is getting married. Must be hard when after so many years you come across an elleth that is not your mother and find out she's already been taken. Hopefully, someone else will show up in his life instead among the Elves at Wiseman or where ever else there will be more Elves.
Nell was already mentioned in the reviews about this and I'm going to agree with that, she'll be just like her mother and take matters in het own hands!

Making the Wiseman branch of the SCA a Mortal affair would make an interesting turn in recruiting, it might attract people who would normally stay away from elves, although I agree with Dreamflower here, the kind of people who would be interested in joining the SCA will be more likely the ones who will in general be more open minded about elves already.

Oh-oh, Ron's coming to fetch his daughter back and he will not be happy. Maybe he should be taking some pointer from his own anger management classes before driving off to Fairbanks!

Also, wanted to ask this for a longer time, I've been reading through the other EA parts, as well as some of your older works for the last few months, I think. Is it okay to comment on them as well? Some haven't gotten any replies in a longer time, but there are several places where I had some questions or comments about.

Author Reply: Hi FV_Whisper. To answer your question first, by all means feel free to go back to earlier stories and leave reviews. I still get reviews for older stories, either by people who discover my writing or by long-time readers who go back to earlier works and make additional comments.

We'll see how the brothers feel about Finrod when the finally meet him and vice versa and perhaps they will both find an elleth to love eventually. As Elladan says, the floodgates have been opened and there should be more commerce between Wiseman and Valinor, so the chances are better now for finding mates.

We'll see who else comes with Ron to Fairbanks. I'm sure Holly has already warned him to take a few deep breaths and a step or two back as he always likes to say and stay calm. *grin*

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Well, at least they are coming up with more workable solutions to the need to teach people to protect the world when the time comes! Gwyn and Gareth do sound a bit starstruck when discussing Finrod, though! Heh!

Author Reply: Well, Gwyn and Gareth are young. *grin* And I would be a bit starstruck too if I knew Finrod (or Glorfindel) was for real.

The SCA is a great way to train people without raising any eyebrows in certain circles.

Thanks for reviewing, Larner. I appreciate it.

The previous chapter and this one are so much fun! Lots of interesting info about the past and the possibilities of a new involvement in the SCA. Those will be some fun tournaments to see with the twins involved! LOL

Loved the comment about food allergies. What a hoot! I think the brothers are in for some disappointment when they meet the heroes of legend for real. teehee

Author Reply: Hi Ellie. Well, if we ever get to the point where we are describing SCA tournaments with the Elves competing, I imagine they will be very fun.

And we all feel disappointment when we meet our heroes and find out that they're just like the rest of us with good points and bad, but that doesn't stop them from being heroes when push comes to shove.

Thanks for reviewing. I know how difficult it's been for you to do so lately and I appreciate you making the effort.

SunnyReviewed Chapter: 39 on 5/12/2014
Gareth's disappointment that Serindė was not available for a romance was really quite cute - I bet he (and his brother) will be doing their best to charm the unattached ladies into a few dates. Wonder how that will turn out - and if the great Finrod Felagund is going to be too scary - and generally awe-inspiring, living legend that he is - for his niece to be a prospect for dating.
Heh. I suspect Nell is very like her mom. In which case she may well take matters into her own hands, and ask Gwyn or Gareth out instead of the other way around.
I see that the three runaways have been given firm orders to stay put, and that they are rather nervous about Hurricane Vorondur's arrival. Definitely looking forward to the fireworks!

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. We'll see how successful either brother is in securing dates from the available ellith in Wiseman soon enough. And Nell is pretty much a carbon copy of Galadriel in that respect. We'll just have to see how it goes once the brothers meet all the other Elves.

And the fireworks won't be long in coming. LOL!

Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

LyanaReviewed Chapter: 39 on 5/12/2014
Awww - poor Gareth! Well, at least now he has hope that available elleth exist nearby. :-)

Hmm... wonder if Kyle and his tranq are coming along; daughters will be forgiven, but Papa Bear Ron doesn't sound like it will be a happy reunion with Dan and Roy, no matter that they are all ages-old adults!

Author Reply: Hi Lyana. Well, I'm sure both Gwyn and Gareth will be happy to learn that there are possibly available ellith just up the street from them. *grin*

We'll see who ends up joining the posse to Fairbanks in the next chapter and then we'll see how the reunion goes after that.

Thanks for leaving a review. It's much appreciated.

rikkiReviewed Chapter: 39 on 5/12/2014
Lots of good information on SCA. I have never been involved in anything like this and the intricate levels of cantons and baronys are very interesting. Having the mortals do the establishment of the Wiseman SCA group will also help to make it plain that the mortals are a big part of the planning process. The Valarian elves should really get into the fighting with swords part.

In a way the twins and Sarah should not have run away, but I am hoping that the space and time have given everyone time to slow down and let a lot of anger cool before they face each other again. Communications folks! That has been 99% of the problem from the beginning here. Hopefully everyone will listen to the other when they do meet. If Glorfindel can make the trip, it will go far in easing the tensions that are going to arise when Sarah's father makes it to Fairbanks.

Author Reply: Hi rikki. I tried to give as much information as newbies would want without bogging down the chapter, as I know that not all my readers would be familiar with the organization and how it's structured.

And while the Twins and Sarah shouldn't have run away, obviously they were meant to find Gwyn and Gareth, or more precisely, the Valar took the opportunity to introduce the two groups to one another when the three from Wiseman left and went to Fairbanks. I think eventually the two groups would have met, but not necessarily in this manner. Once the Twins made the decision to leave Wiseman, contingency plans were set in motion and this is the result.

We'll see how things go when the posse shows up.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.
