Brothers of the Tribe  by Linda Hoyland 3 Review(s)

Greetings! My first thought when Tahir said that his usual healer was out of the country was that someone had been waiting for that opportunity. My next thought, when he said "healers of the warrior tribe I am a son of", was that there was an opening for Aragorn. I had forgotten the scene in the sauna, but THAT just seemed to fit. I agree with the previous reviewers. You have created a colorful and detailed picture of Tahir's world and his beliefs. It is sad, isn't it, how many of the comments of the Gondorian witnesses sound like what we hear on the streets of our own cities. In my part of the world, there are two large, predominant ethnic groups, and smaller numbers of several others. All too often we hear, "there they go, fighting amongst themselves again", when someone of that second largest group is in the news. Yet I have found that some of them are the most dedicated employees where I work. Our world has not changed much.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted that you enjoyed this story.I'm pleased that you liked this look at Tahir's culture. I try to incorportate real world issues into my stories as I don't think people change much. You only have to look at say, the Bible for examples.

I love the depth of detail on the Haradri beliefs to which Tahir adheres. How fortunate that his friendship with Aragorn and Faramir is such that they have adopted one another as brethren! Well done.

“Please do it swiftly, esteemed Lord Aragorn,” said Tahir. “Forgive me that I am so lacking in courtesy and cannot rise to greet you.”

I just love that line, and this whole story. Your tales ring so true, and always leave me feeling as relieved and peaceful as the characters.
