The Green Knight  by Le Rouret 7 Review(s)
LynReviewed Chapter: 16 on 6/5/2006
Of course, the plot is quite presentable and laudable; the characterizations
delightfully full and well rounded, but the finest words are those written
to describe the humbler scenes...chickens in the rain, reflections of
window light on objects outside in the rain. Well done.

I had mentioned potatoes and tomatoes were New World plants (was it Drake or Raleigh who found them?), but I wonder if lemongrass and tamarisk would
grow as far north as Osgiliath. Hmmm....

Ah, now I am up-to-date again!

Favorite line: “First Bandy calls you a cow, now you are a goat! The next man who compares you to a farm animal is getting an axe in his belly.”

This is very much a tease. Please update soon.

Humble Scribe, etc.

Ah, but wait.
Now I'm suspicious of anyone who was sitting in on the impromptu council in chapter 7, when they explicitly said "Lasgalen's" father might not be so generous should his son be killed in Gondor. That would make sense, given the implied motives, and Legolas has already suggested that Aragorn keep a wary eye on them.
I guess I'll just have to wait and find out with everyone else. ;)

*snorts*

Thanks I'll be sure to cross the horse of my list...the bugger's shifty eyes were getting to me.

ioy...trying to keep track of all the suspects and their motives in that post has left me short several dearly loved brain cells...

I loved Gimli's line at the end. Something along the lines of what I was thinking, when they started calling Legolas a goat. Not the description I would apply to my favorite Elf!

Ah, so we have a motive! I actually hadn't thought much about this loan of Thranduil's, but it certainly does offer some explanation. More and more folks are finding out who Legolas is, though, and it's only a matter of time before someone starts gossiping. Nice detail about how he was trying to disguise his voice, by the way.

Thank you for another marvelous chapter - and the glimpse of these great lords and ladies as real people. Arwen Undomiel with a chicken in her lap - that is truly inspired. And I loved Aragorn's hug, and Legolas' reaction to it. Perfect!

One of the best chapters yet! So I finally begin to see where this is going . . . crooks are always poor sports, and it does seem that some weeding is necessary in Aragorn's garden.
Somehow I have a gut feeling about Ardun; that happened in a movie once, and the guy turned out perfectly innocent, but still . . .

Anyway ~
I have to say that I absolutely love you characterization of Legolas. Looks do not make a character; they must have depth (and preferably high moral standards) and your Legolas seems to have plenty of both. All his little nuances as you have written them are just perfect to my mind :) There are far too many examples in this chapter alone to quote.

So funny the way Gimli seems quite fed up with Legolas' four-legged epithets. Neither a cow nor a goat comes immediately to mind when I think of Legolas. ;)
Overall, it has been a very interesting evening. But now everyone is booting me off the computer, so I'll have to leave it at that.
Great job!

I must (again?) congratulate you on the vivid images you created. Your description of the light from the kitchen of Faramir's house reflecting on the wet pavement alone was worth the read! Then there was that image of the leaders of Gondor having just enjoyed their dinner *grin*. Aragorn with his feet propped upon the hearth, the Queen with a hen upon her lap must have been quite a sight for Brytta's esquire. Not to speak of Legolas about to serve as the goat to bait a trap for a lion.

Apart from the imagery, I am relieved that Híldaf is about to serve another master. Though Brytta will surely find another poor soul to serve as his esquire, someone I do not envy.

Now I am hooked to read more about Legolas and his new disguise as goat :-)
