Another Moment of your Time  by Larner 3 Review(s)

"And you know what? I think as we have some new friends!"

Great story! I must say that Rosie's plan worked out quite nicely.

But Zeno and Thistle were not like some other narrow-minded hobbits we met in your stories. They respected the birthday tradition and they let the others tell them about Frodo and Bilbo without bluntly interrupting them. So maybe they even believed part of what they heard :-)

Author Reply: Yes, that is a blessing. And it's also always a blessing when one makes a new friend or two.

Thanks so very much, Andrea!

Be nice if I did, but no. I live in Oklahoma. So you live in Oregon or Maine, then?

Author Reply: Washington state. My former college roommate lives just across the Columbia River on the east side of Portland, Oregon. Was surprised to see a story set in Oregon, and as I've driven past the state park you mention it seemed logical you were familiar with the state, too.

Lived in Tulsa as a very small child myself, but have lived in western Washington most of my life.

It's great that Sam and Rosie were able to make friends with Zeno and Thistle! And that was quite a party they had in honor of Bilbo and Frodo.

I'm so glad that Aragorn wrote to them!

Author Reply: The Master tells us in the Appendices that the residents of the Shire found Sam's tradition of celebrating Frodo's birthday was as questionable as Frodo's for drinking a toast to Bilbo at his own birthday parties, and that the joint birthday of Bilbo and Frodo was celebrated in Gondor at least as "Ring Day." It thus follows that the Travellers and the King all kept the memory of Bilbo and especially Frodo alive in this way all of their lives.

Again, thanks so much for your comments, Kathy!

Do you live in the Portland area? I visit it frequently, and often have lunch with Lindelea during my visits--she now lives in Vancouver, just across the river. I'd be glad to meet you the next time I'm down with time to spare.
