Trotter  by Dreamflower 7 Review(s)

What a homecoming for Thorn! But the end of this chapter does not bode well for Trotter, I know...*wince*

I like it that Oriel is trying to catch "Freckles"' eye! Heh! :)

Oh, my! This was very exciting and a real nail-bitter. I'm glad I don't have to wait for the next chapter.

Speaking of side tales, I love the bit of Oriel/Nethon going on here.

And orcs, and Hildifons killing one! Rather exciting!

I do wish Thorn had showed a bit more common sense, but that is, I'm afraid, what youths fresh from Rivendell will do...

Author Reply: LOL! Yes, Thorn's little sister had a good idea of who she wanted from a very early age!

He did! Of course, he did it in a very hobbity fashion, but was just as deadly for all that!

Well, Thorn did have reasons for what he did, but he did not think through to possible repercussions if he failed to take out the Orc sentry at once. Impulsive, as many youths, whether Men or Hobbits, are prone to.

Now that's an exciting cliffhanger isn't it? There are advantages after all of being so behind, now I can go happily right away to the next chapter...

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, sometimes a WIP can leave you biting your nails!

Wow! What a cliffhanger!

It's obvious that Thorn wanted to show the others what he had learned in Rivendell. And he wanted them to see that he could master the situation all by himself. That was a mistake!

From what I know of hobbits and Trotter in particular, I'd say that his shot hit his aim! But will that be enough? After all, his opponent is not some brigand, but a fully-grown Orc!

Go, Trotter! You *are* a hero!

Author Reply: Literally-- well, I don't suppose that ledge is much of a cliff, but still...

You are right about Thorn and about Trotter!

Eep! Oh, why couldn't Arathorn wait? Eager to prove himself no doubt, but he will regret this day for a long time, I suspect. *bites nails*

50 - Tolkien found that number significant for some reason. It's only fitting you chose it to be the turning point in Trotter's life as well.

Author Reply: Saw this pop up just as I was getting ready to quit and go to bed!

You are quite right on all counts!

Well, I wanted to choose it for that reason-- but I was not sure until I had checked the dates! It was quite fortuitous that Trotter's 50th should converge with Thorn's coming of age-- I took that as a sign! LOL!

Ah, Dreamflower--this is truly marvelous! Yes, Hildifons! A hero worthy of all caring he is now! Yes!

And indeed Thorn has the right of it--AND the wrong of it as well! Hope Arador lets him have it royally for the foolishness of his action in the lack of appropriate backup! But to know what he's caused his beloved Trotter will have to be the worst burden young Arathorn now has to bear, I fear.

Author Reply: He is a hero, isn't he?

Thorn's action was foolish and impulsive-- I have a feeling that he will never forget that.
