Trotter  by Dreamflower 10 Review(s)

My dearest Dreamflower,

Worse and worse for poor Hildifons! :( Poor lad! (Except at the very end of course, but *he* doesn't know that!) Even unconsciousness, followed as it will be by such a quick rescue is better than all the abuse he suffered. If Adamanta had ever heard this, it would have broken her heart even worse.

Very exciting! Here he was, nearly ready to escape and suddenly there is a battle. Reminds me a bit of how Pippin and Merry managed to escape from the Orcs. I am worried about Porridge though.

Author Reply: Battles come in handy that way, sometimes! You know, I hadn't consciously thought about Merry and Pippin escaping the Orcs, but I'll bet it unconsciously inspired me!

The suspense was fantastic! I didn't even stop at the last chapter to comment, lol. Unfortunately, brigands/highwaymen have been around for ages, and poor Hildifons hasn't seen the worst part of them. But I hope he's seen the last of this bunch.

As much as I'd like to go on it's well past my normal bedtime, and I've been fighting sleep because this tale is so brilliant. Good night, and I'll be back soon! :-)

Author Reply: Oh, that's a big compliment! Yes, brigands, outlaws, ruffians-- they've been around for a very long time!

Hope you get a good night's sleep! I'll be glad to see what you think of the rest of the tale when you get around to it!

Those nasty men! To even think about selling such a young innocent into such a depraved life! Grrrrrr! Help has arrived, and just in the nick of time. Hildifons will (hopefully) never know how close he came to true misery.

Author Reply: Well, they are brigands, outlaws and ruffians, and all they really care about is a profit.

But yes, his help has come!

I'm hoping that fight at the end is Rangers taking out the ruffians (and I know I'm right because I put off this review, hah!). Reading the uses that Hildifons would have on the market, even however tactfully mentioned, made me want to cry just a little bit; especially because Hildifons eventually learns what those are. And the fact that even hearing about torture made him faint... Poor fellow. *chucks a Thermos of tea into the ruffians' camp*

Author Reply: Well, of course now you *do* know. Of course he would have made a valuable slave under any circumstances, but ruffians and the people who deal with them are the lowest of the low.

As for the faint, I am sure it was more than just listening to what the outlaws got up to as it was to being tied up and hung head down across a pony.

(And I'm sure he appreciated the tea.)

I am sorry he's been hurt, but am glad the ruffians are being attacked!

Author Reply: Yes, they are being attacked! And now you can see by whom!

Hopefully the new batch of Men are Rangers - poor Hildifons could use some good luck.

A grim and gripping chapter. More soon, I hope.

Author Reply: I had to wait to respond to your guess--since of course you were quite right!

The new chapter's up now. I'm glad you are enjoying this!

Oh, poor hobbit! He's had a rough time so far!

But the arrival of the newcomers might be the end of Hildifons' captivity. They might be some of the good guys. Rangers perhaps? I really hope so.

Author Reply: He has had a rough time, hasn't he?

You will soon find out!

Yikes! Poor Trotter, I like this little guy already, I must say this is the most interesting Hobbit story I have read in a long while! Double Kudos to you. Hugs Deb the Imp

Author Reply: Oh, I am so glad that you are enjoying my hobbit! Thank you!

Eeeek! My cliffhangers are nowhere near as bad as yours, you evil thing. Poor lad, and poor pony. I hope this is (somehow) the beginning of good things for them both.

Author Reply: Well, you don't write all that many--but since I know how mine come out and I don't know how *yourw* come out, I think yours are worse (for me, anyway) LOL!

But I won't keep you waiting too long!
