This is excellent and I am enjoying reading for the first and saving my comments for later. But one thing I noted here; Thranduil is lord of Greenwood here during Túk's time, but would it not be Oropher? Does that mean that Túk lived in the Third Age and Mirimë had been watching them for a long time before this? Or do you mean to say that hobbits are exclusive to the Third Age?

Gamba, hmm? Is he a first or second cousin, on their fathers' or mothers' sides? LOL! *is very intrigued by such things* I presume he's a relation of the Oldbucks/Brandybucks?

Author Reply: I'll have to think about that. I don't believe Adamanta's seen fit to tell me yet. But yes, he would have been one of Merry's ancestors.

Oh, they shall see Elves again all right! Even Silvan Elves, aplenty. *g*

Author Reply: They will. It's canon that they learned a lot from the Elves!

Tuk is as curious about the Elves as Bilbo always was. Nice connection.

Author Reply: Yes, he is curious! And JRRT did hint that the hobbits and Elves had some dealings at one time...

Ah, much better. A little warning, but no hostilities. It could be interesting to see Elves and Hobbits interact in the future. But we will see.

Author Reply: JRRT said there was some interaction in the early years between Elves and hobbits-- it had to start somewhere!

Tuk seems to have made quite the impression, on more than just the Elves. It's easy to see why Mirime was impressed with him.

Author Reply: He's an impressive young hobbit! But then he's the source of the gene pool for all of our hobbit heroes, so he's got to be rather special!

Oh, I'm so glad you've picked this up again! Interesting indeed, and delightful to imagine an early friendship between Elves and Hobbits.

Author Reply: JRRT hints that some of the hobbit customs and words can be traced back to Elves-- they had to have some early contact with them. And considering their location in their earliest days, the Elves of Greenwood seem to be the most logical.

“Well, Cousin Tûk, that was interesting!” exclaimed one of the other hobbits.

It was, indeed!

So, now that they have met each other they might even develop a friendship.

I'm not so sure, however, that Tuk can withstand "the call" of the forest! I wonder what will happen then...

Author Reply: We will see! I hope to be updating this fairly frequently now.

I love seeing her spying on these so-small folk in this way, and seeing the interactions between them and Thranduil's folk. Excellent!

Author Reply: Yes, their first encounter with the Fair Folk!
