Reading this is making me want to read Lord of the Rings again. You do a beautiful job with your words. I especially liked the mist parting at the waterfall.

Boromir wouldn't have been himself if he wouldn't have tried to rebel against being carried one more time. I think after that little trip down the first set of steps he is healed of his ambitions. I loved the glimpse of Gondor from high up the stairs.

I was listening to Howard Shore's score (where the Hobbits run through the cornfield, fall down the cliff, and hide from the Nazgul.) Great music for reading something like this!

Love this description.... "Beyond that cloud of mist, the world seemed to drop away, and behind it was nothing but empty sky." Have you been down the stairs at Niagara Falls. Your description brings ideas to mind that I had not thought of. That the stairs would become more and more treacherous.

I do love Boromir's impatience. I am fairly surprised that he kept his tongue. I don't know if I would have. To have to sit back and listen to them discuss how they were going to try to kill him... not literally, of course, but the trip... Wow. I had to giggle when he did disclose the fact to Linhir that he had every intention of being a back-seat driver. ROTFL

Really great chapter and fun to read.

Now, this does take courage, to trust in the strength, fortitude, and care of his men for the rest of the descent. But at last he is indeed within Gondor!
