A Mother's Work  by Dreamflower 10 Review(s)

Teehee! Baby Pippin! This is so sweet. I love the end.

Author Reply: Pippin's an adorable baby! I love to write him when he's that tiny!

I was afraid the ending was a little sappy, but I was glad most of my readers did not think so.

Getting to this at last! So busy and I still haven't finished the alphabet either. :(

She gave her mother another hug. “And I love you, too! I’m glad that you had me.”

“Why, so am I, dearling, so am I.”

And that makes it all worth it, doesn't it?

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

I'm glad Paladin recognised the danger - and knew this was a good moment to submit to the alpha parent. The last thing you need when you have squabbling daughters and domestic accidents and a birthday to deal with is an infant son with fruit-related digestive problems.

But it was a sweet day in the end. One to treasure.

Author Reply: Paladin is no fool, Took or not! He knows that there are times when you just *don't* assert yourself--Eglantine was in no mood for that!

I had to have it end sweetly--she's a mother after all, and those sorts of moments are precious.

*sneezes* Oh, so much fluff in the air. ;) What a sweet ending to an otherwise hectic day. Eglantine and Bell could swap some stories, I'm sure! And wee!Pippin was adorable, as always. :)

Author Reply: *waves hand ieffectually at all the fluff*

It *was* a hectic day, wasn't it? I imagine most days after Pippin came along were pretty hectic, though of course he *is* adorable! *grin*

Oh, that was too funny! I din't mean the misfortunes, but the scathing look Eglantine gave Paladin about the clean nappies...his being oblivious to the "after effects" of a baby eating plums. That was great. And it was perfect! Exactly how I would imagine Eglantine coping with a day such as that. I think this one is my favourite. :-)

PF

Author Reply: I have to confess, I was kind of remembering Michael Keaton feeding the baby chili in "Mr. Mom". It's not the sort of result daddies tend to think about ahead of time, LOL!

And Eglantine did cope well with her day, didn't she? I'm glad you liked this one!

What a lovely mother Eglantine was! I have a real soft spot for her, and you write her quite beautifully. A wonderful portrait of this admirable family. I loved all the little details of the presents and the relationships, and the quick fixes for lunch and dessert!

Author Reply: I set myself a little challenge to write a Pippin story with no Merry and Frodo in it, LOL! But it was fun to see his interactions at that age with his older sisters, who I see as reacting to him with a combination of indulgence and exasperation, LOL!

Pearl TookReviewed Chapter: 4 on 5/17/2007
All right . . . bad me

I've only read the Took story :-(

I'll read the others, I promise

This was so cute, all the mishaps on a special day - very normal when one has wee children. And I liked Nell's question at the end, I'm sure that got asked a lot in the days when little ones were born at home.

Well done, dreamflower :-)

Author Reply: Yes, it's one of those rules laid down by Murphy: whatever can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time.

I am sure it did. Children were I'm sure, often just in the next room, hearing their mother's cries. It could be very frightening, I'd think.

And we love all of them - mainly because of Authors like you! *wipes authorial brow and offers to change nappies!*

Author Reply: Why thank you so much, harrowcat! And we authors love faithful Reviewers like *you*!

I'm sure Eglantine appreciates the offer!

And that last makes all the moments before--and the pain of eight years earlier--well worth it.

Author Reply: It does, doesn't it?

This is adorable. Poor Paladin. He meant well but just look at the mess he made. LOL

Author Reply: Yes, poor Paladin! He really didn't think, did he? LOL!
