An Alphabet for Middle-earth  by Dreamflower 12 Review(s)

I love the idea of this grown Man who has been through fearful battles all nervous about the idea of his wanting to marry Eowyn being rejected by Eomer and being comforted and assured by hobbits. I'm sure if he had been there, he would have comforted Sam in his turn when he was nervous about Rosie. That would be have a cute scene. And of course Sam had his turn being comforted by his fellow hobbits as well.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: It was quite funny--originally, it was going to be a drabble with only Pippin! I was so surprised when the others spoke up, LOL! But being comforted by hobbits can't be beat!

That was yet another sweet scene of my favourite Fab Four having a lovely time together while helping Faramir get ready for the Big Question. The part of Frodo amazed at Sam's wager was priceless! :-)

Author Reply: You know what's funny? Originally, it was just to be a drabble of Pippin helping Faramir. I was quite astonished when I realized the other three were in the room and had something to say as well, LOL!

I like the idea that as well as Frodo thought he knew Sam, there were still some surprises left!

It takes a lot to intimidate Faramir - no-one who has faced both the evil of Mordor and the - er - difficult relationship he had with his father towards the end would find his knees shaking at anything less than this! Good reassurance from confident hobbits - and I love Pippin's sartorial confidence! It is such an interesting sidelight on his character.

Author Reply: I can't believe I never responded to this lovely comment! I'm so sorry! I thought I had answered everybody!

I, too, didn't like the thought of a "fearful Faramir"--unless it was something like this! After all, announcing a betrothal makes almost any man nervous!

Pippin has three older sisters; I am quite sure he heard more conversations than he wanted to about clothing and fashion! But he'd certainly make good use of the knowledge!

Faramir in dark blue velvet would be a sight to behold - very appealing. Lucky Eowyn! I bet there will be a few other Eorling women looking at him too!

I love Pippin's cheerful helpfulness. Faramir has never had sisters, so having someone around with knowledge of feminine priorities would be good for him.

Author Reply: Yes, I imagine he looks quite--fetching--in it! *grin* And I would guess Eowyn won't mind them *looking", LOL!

Pippin is rather reveling in it! This is one thing he does know better than either of his older cousins, just from the virtue of having sisters. And it would be fun for him to reassure his larger friend that he does know what he's talking about!

*giggle* Trust Pippin to know what's what when it comes to lasses. He should know all about accessorizing and color-coordinating, being raised with three sisters. Sam would too, but I think Pippin has a bit of an edge over Sam here, since the Took lasses would have more means of making new gowns and dresses as the need arised - which leads to many, many discussions on how to be making them - while Sam's sisters would be more reliant on the same garb or loans from friends. And I adore that Sam bet two coppers! And Merry's brief scowl at losing *ten*! That should teach him for not listening to Pippin!

Author Reply: Yes, I agree. Sam's sisters would have had their own concerns about their appearance, but would not have been all concerned with the "color-coordinating" that the more well-to-do lasses would. They'd have to consider practicality first.

But I see Great Smials as being the sort of place where clothes would have pretty much been a hot topic among most of the lasses who lived there--and Pippin's sisters would probably have led the pack!

I thought it might be funny if Sam had bet, too! Of course Merry should have known not to bet against Pippin on a thing like that--but he does like to wager. And Frodo does not approve, LOL!

Pip will froever be the expert on what sisters will and won't want or like! LOL

Author Reply: He will, won't he? There *are* advantages to being the only brother, and being the youngest!

A wonderful change-up after the last story. You've the skill of a talented musician!

Pippin knows the lasses, that's for sure. ;-)

Author Reply: *blushes* Thank you!

Well, with all those sisters and lass cousins, he should, LOL!
