An Alphabet for Middle-earth  by Dreamflower 7 Review(s)

It was fun to have this little moment of Pippin and Targon's first meeting. I enjoyed Pippin's bemusement at the thought of all that weight on him, and of course he would not wish to suffocate his feet! ;) Pippin really was like a little ray of sunshine during those dark days, wasn't he? It's no wonder he became their "prince".

Author Reply: He was, I think, very like a "ray of sunshine", and a portent of better things to come. They could not help but be cheered up by him!

I remember the first time I ever picked up a friend's chain-mail hauberk, and asking him how the heck he could wear anything so heavy, much less fight in it, and he told me the part about weight being distributed over the body!

A great expansion of an easily over-looked moment. Especially that the ordinary soldiers realise that there is much more to Pippin's story but that they are heartened by his coming.

Author Reply: I've always wondered how on earth they could have found livery and armor to fit Pippin basically overnight; I liked PJ's movie-verse explanation of the origin of those items, which for once did not contradict canon. And I love Pippin's interaction with Beregond.

It seemed to me that most of the people left in the City would know there was something up, when this small person arrived accompanied by Mithrandir. That they bestowed the title Ernil i Pheriannath on him seemed very telling. And Pippin's bright spirit must have been very comforting, as well.

Pippin must have been a breath of fresh air in that gloomy place. Open, curious, affectionate - and well-acquainted with Boromir. No wonder they welcomed him.

Author Reply: Exactly. I am certain that he lifted a lot of people's spirits in the few days he was there.

Yes, darkness comes, but it won't douse the Light of Hobbits. The tide has indeed turned.

Author Reply: No, just as when Merry and Pippin's arrival in Fangorn triggered major events, Pippin's arrival at Minas Tirith did the same.

A wonderful gap filler, Dreamflower! Indeed, Boromir would be most proud!

Author Reply: I've always wondered just how Pippin came by armor and livery only a day after Denethor gives the order. I did like the movie-verse explanation, so I kind of adapted it to here.

I am sure that if Boromir could have seen Pippin, he'd have just been bursting with pride.

Our dear Pippin is indeed a ball of energy and a cup of good cheer! I also like to imagine that Pippin gained a lot of well-earned respect for his friendship with Boromir.

I've enjoyed all three wonderful stories - now to await the rest of the alphabet. :-)

Author Reply: I am quite sure that he did--Boromir was beloved by the City, and knowing Pippin was his friend would make a huge impression.

I hope all the prompts are going to inspire me! *crosses fingers!*

Oh, I love this! The men's conversation about Pippin, Pippin wearing Faramir's old livery, Pippin just being dear, sweet Pippin, the inclusion of Boromir--love it, love it! :) Beautifully done!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: He is a "dear, sweet Pippin", isn't he?
