I wasn't expecting that last line, so it hit me with full force. How poignantly sad!

I loved Boromir's fierce protectiveness of his little brother. And it's intriguing to wonder if he had a premonition of his fate.

Author Reply: Denethor must have! He wouldn't have said anything to Boromir, but I do wonder sometimes - did he ever dream his own death??? He did have the one dream....

Author Reply: I meant Boromir - did he ever dream his own death.

Oh....my....goodness!

Hear that? It's the sound of my heart breaking.

You are awesome. Yes. You are.

Please do more like this? If you can connect this episode with Merry and Pippin, you can archive it at The Blue Book: Boromir's Journal.

Author Reply: *giggles* - methinks you like EVERYTHING connected with Merry & Pippin - if I ever finish 10,000 years - I might be able to go back and put a 2nd chapter up with the two of them!!!! Protector of Hobbits too!

The story seems a bit AU to me, since there's no indication that Boromir ever had a scrap of foresight, at least not Numenorean foresight, but it's still very effective and poignant. It also offers a non-canonical explanation, indirectly, as to why Boromir was so eager to undertake the mission to Imladris in Faramir's place.

Boromir's protectiveness of his brother is very well done here.

This is awesome, Agape! Chilling. So very well done.

Author Reply: *blushes* Thank you!

What a piece of knowledge to have to foresee. Alas, Boromir, protecting the next Steward of Gondor....

Author Reply: That's what I liked about it too, Larner - that Boromir, in his innate need to protect Faramir as the big brother of a motherless boy - suddenly is faced with the fact that it might have been a two-pronged need - protector of the next Steward of Gondor! *SHIVERS*

Whew. Knocked the breath out of me.

Author Reply: LOL - knocked the breath out of Boromir too - probably did NOT share that thought with Faramir!!!

All I can say to this is "Wow!" Very powerful writing.

Author Reply: Thank you. I do so love writing the men of Gondor! I most appreciate the kudo!

Intriguing, that moment of foresight. Perhaps this is why Boromir insisted upon being the one to go off in search of Imladris. Not a wise move for the heir to the Stewardship during a time of increasing danger, but if he knows that he'll never be Steward anyway -- perhaps he'd see such a quest as his own way into the history books.

Author Reply: Oh my, French Pony, that is an interesting hypothesis!

Very nice! After all, Boromir had that dream which led to his northward journey, as did Faramir. Even though he was more the warrior than the wise man, he too had his moments. I am sure that the last time he lay gasping near the banks of the river, his last thoughts went out to his brother, as well as their city. You put us inside his thoughts, his memories.

Author Reply: Thanks so much! I'm glad you remembered the dream - though some would *gasps in shock* say that Boromir lied and did not have the dream - totally AU thought to me!!!!

So if he had the dream, perhaps he had other 'gifts' too...

And thank you for the thought of him gasping at Amon Hen too - got to remember that! Two riverbanks and two horrors!

I've often wondered if the Black Breath that assailed Faramir and him at that battle with the Nazgul left some lingering effect????
