Neath Anor, Ithil, and Gil  by Larner 8 Review(s)
Raksha The DemonReviewed Chapter: 88 on 5/25/2010
Oh, I love this one - great characterization of Melkor, and a lovely, slcw, chilling buildup to the last line.

Author Reply: Oh, yes--the one fraught with envy! And thanks so much for the nomination--I am thrilled!

Well, he could have bothered to try and do something constructive together with the other Valar, instead of doing something so terribly destructive after the others had created such beauty. It's really sad how far people can go in their envy.

Author Reply: Melkor, COOPERATE with others? Perish the thought! Heh! But you are correct--envy can be so destructive an emotion! No wonder it's listed among the Seven Deadly Sins!

A great and chilling twist at the end of this.

Author Reply: I find myself wondering just how long he worked on the spear he used against the trees. How his envy must have curdled in his heart!

Thanks so, Linda.

Ah, Melkor.... you gotta love him. At least he's consistent. *sly grin*

Lovely description of the creation of the Trees, Larner, and how each of the Valar had a hand in their making, whether directly or indirectly.

Author Reply: Oh, yes--consistently rotten! Once the Trees were growing, how each of the Valar must have delighted to sustain them and reflect their beauty, or so I'd think. Thanks so, Fiondil.

What a contrast!

On the one hand the creation of beauty by working together, each one supplying his or her own special gift.
On the other hand just one thought: destruction!

Envy indeed!

Author Reply: I so agree, Andrea--quite the contrast between seeking to augment the gift of the Trees and wanting but to set all at naught again. Yes, the heart of envy. Thanks so!

I see Melkor is being his usual sweet and adorable self again!
Lynda

Author Reply: Oh, yes, Lynda--very much so! Thanks for the giggles! Heh!

*nods* Envy indeed, and a hunger to be not just part of everything but chief in everything.

Author Reply: You have stated it so well, Dreamflower. Yes, wanting to put himself before all others, he seeks ever to mar or destroy that which he had no part in making. And so he already is plotting against the Trees, even though he must also suffer the loss of their Light when they are gone....

how beautiful to describe the work and creations on the Valar. Liked this very much. Thank you. Lai

Author Reply: We know that all of the faithful of the Valar delighted in the Light of the Trees; each must have sought to enhance it as he or she could, or so I think. Only Melkor would seek to destroy what his brothers and sisters had wrought and delighted in, I think.

Thanks so, Lai.
