"Cado, too, found himself uncharacteristically thoughtful."

Food for thought for Cado...hmmm. This sounds promising, but I'm still not holding my breath. LOL...I'll leave you alone for a little while about the prisoners. ;-)

I don't mind; unlike "Reckoning" this story is still going. Who knows, you *might* have some influence--or you might not!

It would be quite the thing to think about indeed, knowing the one you were jealous of had fallen under a troll and almost died, and had so changed he thought nothing of stabbing trolls in the first place.

Author Reply: Absolutley. Cado's been hearing off and on about what Pippin and Merry did while gone, but up until now, he has not been sure what to actually believe. These first hand accounts have to shake his thinking up a bit.

This is a very nice tale indeed! I like how you portray the friendship between the Men and the Hobbits, and do we see a potantial courtship here, hm? :) Lovely!

Author Reply: Thanks! I am enjoying exploring the way in which the three cultures (the Shire, Gondor and Rohan) interact.

As to your question: quite likely. *grin*

Cado's in deep thought? It's too good (and too soon) to hope this will mean he'll see the light anytime soon, but at least he's been given some food for thought.

Author Reply: Let's just say he's beginning to get a slightly different perspective on some things. Whether it will have a good result or not is too soon to tell.

It's about time I find some time to review again, for I enjoy reading so much. Unfortunately I hadn't much time over the last days.
The romance between Viola and Berilac is quite promising, and I loved it how you retold the Last Battle. It is quite interesting to see things from different points of view!
And the Bankses ... hm ... after all they now have something to think about, maybe it does them some good. But why have I the feeling they will cause some trouble along the way?
Can't wait for more!

Author Reply: Didn't realize I had not answered this! I'm sorry!

I am hoping that on this journey a number of revelations will be made to different people. There's nothing like a journey to encourage story-telling, as G. Chaucer discovered.

Why do you have that feeling, I wonder? Is it because they are so despicable? LOL!

Might there possibly be a teeny brain cell floating around somewhere in Cado's head? Might it possibly be that, if Clovis is dumped in a large hole somewhere and his lovely Da is removed from his life, that there is some possibility of redemption for the dimmer but less vicious son of the Banks family? It would be good to see that, I think. And, after all, learning about what actually happened in the outside world might proving an instructive experience for him.

And dear Bergil. What a star.

Author Reply: Well, it's early days yet to see what will come of the prisoners, but yes, Cado does have a brain cell or two, he's just very used to not using it, if you know what I mean.

I know. Bergil's a sweetie; I love him to pieces.

Enjoyed the re-counting of the slaying of the Troll and Cado's reaction to it all. Could it be that he is having a small change of heart in all of this or is he simply very glad that he was never crushed by a Troll?

Author Reply: It's too soon to tell whether any changes might be for the good. But he is definitely beginning to learn that the world is more than the Shire, and that the acclaim Merry and Pippin won while they were gone did not come easy. He has a lot to think about, is all.
For now.

Which was the "worse" brother, Clovis or Cado? I'm too lazy to go back and look, but since you would know and usually reply to reviews anyways...

It was excellent to let another hobbit hear how great his future thain is!

Author Reply: *chuckle* well, they were both pretty dire, weren't they? But Clovis is the older one with the ideas: you know, like knock Pippin down with a ball, steal from the Thain's wine cellar, dare Pippin to get drunk, vandalize the Men's camp and knock one of them out...you know, "brilliant" ideas like that. *grin* And Cado is the one who usually goes along with his brother's "brilliant" ideas because he's too lazy to argue, and then blames him when they go wrong.

Mosco is not as well acquainted with Pippin, and does not know Merry really well, either, even though they are cousins. But, like many another young hobbit in the Shire, he's had a case of hero-worship for them both ever since the Scouring. Hearing first hand just how hard it was for the two of them to come by their hard won heroism has to be an eye opener.
