The Grey at the End of the World  by jodancingtree 3 Review(s)

How lovely!
Freiga's firm belief that Haldar is looking over them is so moving, as it is her stubborn faith and love for her orc!

I love how yo mix these comforting chapters with the more tragic ones, jo, it reminds us that, as you put it, there's always light amidst darkness and even in the most dire situations. Freiga's sacrifice, however in her own -and their child's- interest, is moving, and I hope that she and the child will survive, no matter how bitter the aftermath can be....

Author Reply: Thank you, perelleth! Yeah, obviously Freiga loves Logi dearly, but I think she revered the Shining One, and his steadfastness under torture is something she'll never forget, all the more so because it saved her own life. And somewhere in her heart must be some guilty feelings of her own, that if she had gone with Logi in the first place, Haldar would not have suffered so.

Oh dark, dark, dark. I find myself fearing for the baby, and wanting to slap Logi silly. Grrr. I hope we get some resolution soon, this is so tense.

Author Reply: Yeah, the Orc is impossible, first and last - even his better impulses are maddening!

I started by skimming this because it was just too uncomfortable, but it is rapidly growing on me - as is Logi. But it doesn't seem likely that there is going to be a very happy outcome to the whole story.

Author Reply: Hi, Bodkin -
It's a dark, sad tale, there's no denying, and the ending of the Shire is hard to bear. Yet there was a medieval mystic (whose name I can't remember, shame on me!) who wrote, "All shall be well, and ALL shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well." Ultimately I think she was right, even though the night is sometimes too dark to see a single star.

Thanks for reading, and I hope the story will end on a good note for you.
