What a wonderful chapter! I love how you presented a mature Pippin here, and showed his love for Frodo and Sam and he visits them, and how he chatters away to them. I also enjoyed Merry's attempt to comfort Pippin at the end. Such a sweet story :)

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I love to show the relationship between the hobbits and this story allowed me to do just that in a way I never have done before.

Ohh, that was so sad!!! Quite a long way from the past two chapters - which just shows how far they have gone and how much they have changed. Yes, Pippin too. I love how you captured him being torn between the sorrow he has learned to know and his cheerful Hobbit nature that always finds a little joke to make. I also love that one paragraph where he looks at Frodo and is suddenly reminded of what he said at the beginning of their journey - and how it has suddenly become true. Awesome chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! With this story I really wanted to show how much Pippin grew during the quest and I'm glad you're pointing it out.

*Reads through* *blushes*

(Did you use all of them? Wow! Thank you! That is your most generous praise.)

*Bows*

Author Reply: As I said on YIM I discovered many of my mistakes only when I compared it with the betaed version. Things where I now think, how could I?. And I am glad you pointed these things out.

Still, no, I have not used all of it :) There is a whole paragraph not cut :)

This is such a sweet and bittersweet look at Pippin's care for Frodo.

I love the way he goes to Sam first, dreading to look at Frodo, and the way he thanks Sam:"I want to thank you, Sam," he whispered almost voicelessly, "not only for following Frodo, but also for taking care of him. Though I haven't looked at him yet, your face tells me a lot of what you have been through together and I want to thank you for being his strength."

Then his shocked reaction to Frodo's appearance, and yet the hope he found:Pippin could feel the soft light shining from him. It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light; a radiance Pippin had first seen as a child, snuggled close to his elder cousin on his first visit to Bag End, his first night away from home. He had forgotten about it and yet the light had always been there, emanating from Frodo like an invisible essence.
Somehow it comes as no surprise to me that Pippin could see the light in Frodo. I've always felt that Frodo and Pippin were much alike, and that if Frodo's life had not been tempered by the sorrow of his parents' deaths, his personality would have been much like the irrepressible Pippin's.

This is exactly what I feel and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks so :)

"It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light."

What a perfect description of Frodo, summed up in few words - and every word is fitting! I'm glad the light is still there.

Thank you!

This is beautiful! A lovely take on Pippin's feelings - I'm so glad he saw something of the old Frodo that could comfort him. I loved all the things he said out loud to Frodo too, so hobbity and Pippinish to use light words when he's been thinking such deep thoughts. :)

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked it. It was my first try to write from Pippin's POV and at times it was quite difficult to think of what he would say in a moment like this.

Oh my, what a rare look into Pippin's heart and thoughts. What a remarkable hobbit he is -- how remarkable they *all* are. And this...

Pippin could feel the soft light shining from him. It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light; a radiance Pippin had first seen as a child, snuggled close to his elder cousin on his first visit to Bag End, his first night away from home.

Wow. What a lovely imagine.
