Obviously Eomer and Lothiriel, and very, very lovely. Love the meeting and the imagery of both sides.

Author Reply: Lothiriel is such a blank slate, and I've seen her written in many different ways, but the image I prefer is a fairy-tale kind of a princess, instantly (and, yes, conveniently) smitten with a handsome young king, as I happily wrote here.

Ah, Eomer. I've always liked that line about how he was young, and he was king. But as you say, he was also in a strange place. It's odd to think of him with Lothiriel. He seems so solid and she comes from that elfish stock.

Author Reply: Attraction of opposites? or fascination with the strange and exotic, on both their parts.

Ann,

Of course--they are both used to wide-open spaces! Eomer's uncertain reaction to Lothiriel's remark that "we are all children of the sea" seems appropriate; not only was she raised in a more sophisticated culture, she is probably better educated than he is. And her uncertain reaction at his physical advance--taking her hand--seems appropriate for a woman from a society that values emotional reserve.

Please feel free to unleash your inner romantic vein at any time! In fact, feed it some oats once in a while! :-D

Author Reply: Well, my inner romantic did have a great time, and it's entirely possible that it will be unleashed again very soon.
