Very much the famine has hit. Hope they all make it in time.

I only have time to answer this one, for now. The pestilence, in case you were wondering, was probably spread at the Eastfarthing Pony Races, when hobbits came from all over the Shire to see the races and try to trade for food. It may have spread farther by the waggons of food going out from Buckland to the farthest reaches of the Shire.

And of course, being ill-fed doesn't help any.

Thanks!

And now we see Pippin's practicality, that he learned from Sam. I'm so glad that the guard was Bergil. I remember now, but had forgotten how it was that he entered the Shire. At least he's the Thain's permission.

Oh no! The poor Shire....

This chapter is in all bold as well...I demand a salary for all of this help. I demand to be paid as much as the Thain! (Or at the very least, as much as his chancellor)

Author Reply: Thanks for the latest correction! As much as the Thain, eh? I think we might be able to swing that...
