Dreamflower's Mathoms I  by Dreamflower 4 Review(s)

Here's another scenario that never happened! As we all know, Bilbo is part Baggins and part Took, and that's why Gandalf chose him. What if the Adventure occurred 77 years later (when the Quest itself took place), and Pippin himself were to go on the Adventure as the Burglar? After all, he's as Tookish as they come! =) (Of course, Merry would insist on going with him, so at least he wouldn't be alone among all those Dawrves as poor Bilbo was.)

Oh, my goodness! Oh, I couldn't have done it-all of those things are frightful to think of! But they were well thought of-you chose the things we dread most-and I admire your will to write them.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: I couldn't have written them if they were even AU--but they were clearly labeled "never happened" thankfully! And the first one wasn't so awful--just interesting to realize what a little thing could have kept Bilbo from going on his Adventure.

How sad! Though I didn't quite get the first one about the green paint. Something from the Hobbit, maybe? Hannon le for you stories! Namarie, mellon nin! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

Author Reply: Yes, it's from The Hobbit. The reason the Dwarves knew they were supposed to drop in on Bilbo was because of the sign that Gandalf scratched on Bilbo's front door. If Hamfast repainted the door before the Dwarves could see it, they would not know that was where they were supposed to be--they never would have been there, and so Bilbo would never have gone on his Adventure!

The first one was funny; the rest tragic and grief-instilling.

Well done, Dreamflower.

Author Reply: Thanks. If it had not been that they "never happened" I don't think I could have written them even as AU. But knowing that made it easier somehow.

The first one occurred to me a while back: what if the Dwarves never saw the marks on the door?

The others took a bit more thought. They are all tragic, yet a couple of them that did not end in death were even more tragic. (Imagine Bilbo married to Lobelia er, no never mind...too frightening for words...)

I've often entertained the idea of what might have happened if Balin had asked Bilbo to go to Moria with him, and Bilbo had accepted, and taken the Ring there...brrr.

Author Reply: Meant to say, I had a couple of others I didn't include, as the challenge was for only five.
