"As soon as the door had closed, Pippin threw up his hands. “Yes!” he cried. “Did you see Merry? She smiled back at me!”

Merry laughed. “She did, indeed. It looks like there’s hope for you yet!”

LOL! Pippin is too funny!

"She ought to be dismayed at this complication--he was a patient, for goodness’ sake! So why, then did she feel so giddy and gratified?

LOL, Diamond's been bitten by the old Took charm! I'm so excited about whatever is coming up! I just know that I'm going to enjoy it all. :-) I wanted to review this chapter this morning, but I hadn't read it to the end yet. I savor every chapter of your tales, not to miss one step of the action.

Author Reply: Well, Pippin's fallen pretty hard, and seems to be hitting every single step on the way--and enjoying it, too!

Was there ever any question of her resisting the old Took charm? But even though she's been bitten, she's not quite ready to yield--she has too many questions.

This is my new favourite chapter... I love seeing Pippin and Sam together, and Sam giving Pippin advice about lasses is even better! I'm almost as excited as Pippin that DIamond thinks he has a smile "like the sunshine", and the last couple of scenes were also very touching. I really felt for Frodo and Sam - it's so sad to see them confronted with disbelief when they talk about what they went through, especially when it's such a painful subject. But at least it has brought home to Diamond something of what it was actually like for them, beyond the mystery and excitement of their tales of Elves and Kings. I hope she soon gets to find out more :)

Real nice... Merry is so worried, but I can't blame ehim after all they have been through. It seems Diamond is warming up to pippin...
The questions brought back to many memories for frodo and sam...Real good story, great job....

Ah, I remember the conversation at "the end of all things" way too well. I'm glad Sam finally made that decision. He and Rose were so perfect for each other, don't you think?
I think you're right. Pip's going to have to show Diamond something special before he really wins her over, though it looks like he's already in the process of doing so.
It's a good thing Lavender didn't question Frodo and Sam about their adventures too much. I can't imagine the horrific memories they would have to deal with. You can read the LOTR books and mentally experience the adventures and terrors again and again, but when you close the book, normal life is still going on around you. I couldn't imagine physically going through all that and the almost unbearable scars it would leave.

Author Reply: Oh yes, I absolutely do--those two were meant for one another just as much as Arwen and Aragorn.

Well, our Pip's pretty special himself, isn't he.

Lavender was concentrating on Pippin's injuries and the anomalies of his rapid recovery, so she was not intent on probing Frodo and Sallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Author Reply: Sorry about that. My hand slipped on the keys! I meant to say "Sam" of course! How embarassing!

Interesting how the old knee treatment is so much less effective when applied by someone who is less nubile than the lovely Diamond.

Someone ought to take all the healers in the Shire to one side and give them all the information in one go so they can stop asking questions.

Merry the mother hen. Yep, good description.

Author Reply: *chuckle* it is interesting, isn't it? *grin*

Well, that might work; on the other hand there would always be the ones who were sure that they just neede a little bit more informattion...

Thanks. I thought it fit. 8-D

Sorry, I had no time to review because you are updating so fast now - by the time I have some spare time and an idea what to write there is a new chapter, and I go to read it and start thinking anew ;-)

It is quite funny to watch how Pippin reacts to Diamond *grins* He will have her eventually, and it will be interesting to see this relationship starting and developing. Poor little apprentice, she has no chance to escape at all after this stubborn Took has made up his mind.

But the end of the chapter has worried me. Lavender seems a bit too inquisitive - I hope it will not have a bad effect on Frodo, he doesn't need more nightmares. I am glad the four travellers are together just now - if it goes ill Frodo is at least not alone.

Author Reply: The updates will probably slow down after tomorrow, as I have to work Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Well, we *know* from the Appendices that she has no hope of escaping, after all. But hopefully she will find her fate a pleasant one.

Lavender, like many healers, is single-minded when it comes to information about her patients; also, like many healer, she would believe that it might help to "lance the wound" not knowing the true depth and horror of that wound. But Frodo is going home in one more day.

Oh heavens they noticed each other. Poor Diamond seems in quite a dither as to what to do but Pippin seems quite happy with himself. "you have no time for this sort of nonsense! Even if he did have a smile like sunshine". She is hooked now too. Good thing that Sam bolstered Pip's confidence in getting Diamond after all, LOL.

I bet Lavendar has no idea how she upset Sam and Frodo in having them recount all of Pip's injuries. It brings up so many bad memories for them.

BTW, you have a missing 't' in one of the last sentences ... "you have o ask Mr. Merry" when Sam replied to Mistress Lavendar.

Sharon

Author Reply: Well, let's say she's taken the bait. He's not set the hook yet, *grin* She's going to dither a bit more; after all, she has thought for years that she was going to be like most healers and not marry--she cherishes the idea of independence that gives her, and won't be giving that up without a fight.

I think Lavender knew they were upset, though probably not to what extent; however, like a lot of doctors, she is pretty single minded in getting information that she thinks is necessary for the sake of her patients.

Thanks for letting me know about the typo! I thought I had fixed that, I must have forgotten to hit the edit button. I'll go fix it right now!

Well done! Merry fussing too much over Pippin. The wearying stream of well meaning visitors. His old injuries and oddities. Poor Sam and Frodo having to rehash everything. I'm so glad to find out that Diamond is not immune to those magical green eyes and sunny smile ;)

Author Reply: Merry is having problems of his own right now, as you can tell. And yes, it is so tiring to be laid up and have people tromping in and out, and sometimes being less than tactful in their conversation! And Sam and Frodo will soon return to Bag End and get away from the healer's probing.

How could she be immune to them? How could *anybody*? He just had not felt well enough to turning them on before this.
