Ah--a miserable day turned wonderful in the end! Heh! Excellent day off for our beloved Sam.

Author Reply: Sam's family knows how to make him feel better. :D I'm sure he (and Rose) will enjoy his time off more once he's feeling better. ;)

Thanks for reading!

What a sweet little story! I especially liked the comfort part :-)

And I loved it when Sam's children read a bedtime story to HIM. They were very thoughtful.

Author Reply: Thank you, dear! The comfort is the best part. :)

The children enjoyed getting to read a story to their father for a change. They take good care of their father. :D

I am glad that my birthday inspired you to write such a delightful hobbity story featuring Sam! Your tone and imagery here is perfect - warm and loving with more than a touch of humor. I really like the image of Sam toddling about the smial wearing a nightgown, and even all tucked up by Rose in bed, snug as a bug. And there are so many fun lines to which we can all relate one way or another, such as "... willed the fire to stir itself. It didn’t." or the banter between Sam and Rose. Thank you so much, dear friend... this is a gem!

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed your present! Any opportunity to get Sam snug and coddled is to be savored. :D

Sam walking around the smial in his nightgown is probably rare, even less showing up to the dinner table like that. lol! Fires can be stubborn that way, can't they. ;)

You're most welcome, dearest. Thanks for being such a wonderful friend. (hugs)

What a darling story, so full of love! And I just *know* that Rose would have "never-ending pockets". :)

Author Reply: Rose is a lass prepared for everything! Thank you for your lovely comments! It was a lot of fun to write. :)

It's wonderful to see Sam so loved and cared for. I love that his children read him a bedtime story.

Author Reply: Sam should be pampered every day, but of course he'd never put up with that. The children enjoyed getting to be the ones to read their father to sleep. :D

Thanks for reading!

Sweet! Now they can read Roverandom to their dad next. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I enjoy the idea that the other stories Tolkien wrote can fit into ME as tales the characters would tell each other. :D

Thanks for reading!

What a lovely bit of h/ccc! I love seeing Sam being coddled by his wife and kids! Rosie really does know her hubby very well! I love that she brought him only personal letters! And the kids reading him Farmer Giles of Ham is hilarious! That really is a hobbity sort of story, isn't it?

It'd be fun to know what was in some of those letters!

Author Reply: :D Thanks, dear! Sam is deserving of coddling, and his family enjoy the opportunity to take care of him. Rose wasn't about to let him work when he should be focusing on getting better. I like to think that Tolkien's other stories would be tales that are well-known in ME, and Farmer Giles is very hobbity in tone.

We know Sam enjoyed the letters - just what the healer ordered. ;)
