GamgeeFest's Keepsakes  by GamgeeFest 13 Review(s)

One almost, and I do mean almost feels sorry for Kahmul! Poor Ringwaith! He finds his Baggins and then looses him again! You know who will not be very happy with him!

Keep them coming,
Lynda

Author Reply: Khamul certainly was not properly prepared for assignment! An encounter with a hungry Gaffer didn't help matters! :D I bet he was happy (if he was capable of such emotion) when they left the Shire behind for good.

Thanks for reading!

And with that he went inside and slammed – SLAMMED! – the door in Khamûl’s non-existent face.

Take that, you nasty wraith! Love it - LOL!

It is good that Merry insisted on having the Red Book written as it came down to us instead of him knowing as he did in the movie.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: LOL! Poor Khamul! He had no idea what he was coming up against when he entered the Shire. Though you have to love his reasoning - the Gaffer looks old, so he must be Baggins. ;)

Story externally, it was important that Tolkien write Dernhelm in the way he did, for it to be a surprise to the reader when he was finally revealed to actually be Eowyn. Story internally, it makes poor, underappreciated Merry look like a dolt. So I thought the best compromise would be if Merry knew but allowed himself to look like a dolt for the sake of the story. ;)

I love playing 'what if' every now and then and these two ficlets proved to be a lot of fun. I'm glad you enjoyed them!

This, too, has left me in giggles. ^_^ Non-existant face indeed.

(Are the Black Riders ever given names? I don't recall.)

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm so happy these both got a laugh out of you! :D

Khamul is named in The Unfisihed Tales, "The Hunt for the Ring". He was the one-time ruler of Dol Goldor. I don't believe the other wraiths were ever named.

LOL! I liked it! Sam's good 'ole Gaffer! That was very clever, GF. Me likey. LOL. :)

Author Reply: This is the kid-friendly version of that conversation. :) The Gaffer certainly isn't a hobbit to be messing with, especially when he has dinner about to burn on the stove! ;) I'm glad you enjoyed this one too!

Poor Khamul! You could almost feel sorry for him - he is definitely having a bad day.

I love his pondering whether pushing the runts with his finger was a permissible loophole.

And the general grumpy unimpressed-ness of the Gaffer.

Author Reply: Khamul will continue to have bad days, I'm afraid. ;) About the only good day he'll have is Weathertop - it must have felt like quite an achievement for him when the WK finally succeeded in getting Frodo.

If tipping hobbits over was not a permissible loophole, then at least Sauron was far enough away to never know about it! LOL

The Gaffer was trying to enjoy his last night of freedom before Lobelia moved in. Let's face it, he has far scarier things to worry about than a Black Rider! ;)

Poor old Khamûl, didn't bring a proper map, or asprin. Dealing with a stubborn Gaffer must have given him a severe headache, especially when he had to listen to a recital about all the Bagginses. Probably returned to the Witch-King with a severe case of terminal bewilderment!

Author Reply: And a severe case of hobbit-phobia! LOL! He's yet to encounter Maggot, or the guards on the Buckland Gate or the Bucklanders. The Gaffer will seem like a walk in the park. ;) And I can imagine him having a long talk with that spy when they get to Bree about not making accurate maps!

Hee,Hee! I will be laughing all night! Mistake #1, coming between a hobbit and his dinner. #2, getting a hobbit started about family relations. And mistake # 3, trying to argue with the Gaffer in the first place! It sounds as though Sauron and his witch King made the same mistake Saruman did, underestimating the power of little things. To the downfall of all of them. The whole bit about "little roads, little hills, little people", reminds me of the song "Little Girls" from the musical "Annie". I am especially thinking of Carol Burnett's wonderful boozy rendition of same from the 1982 motion picture. I am sure your Khamul, too, is hoping for "the prohibition of little" well, in this case, people! This is a lot of fun.

Author Reply: Khamul's going to learn a lot about the taboos of speaking with hobbits! If he thought they'd be easily cowed, he'll soon learn the truth!

ROTFL!!!!

Sounds like one Black Rider that could have used a GPS system!

Ah, the good ol' Gaffer ... bless him :D

~Elemmírë~

Author Reply: Too bad they couldn't have installed a Low Jack into the Ring somehow. Would have made all this hunting about much easier.

Poor Gaffer. He just wanted to enjoy his pipe then go inside for a second supper. He shouldn't have to deal with dark customers who don't know who they're looking for or where they're going! ;)

“Why?”

“Why? Why’s none of my business, or yours.”

“No – why me?” Khamûl asked, feeling a headache coming on.

Wonderful! Khamûl met his match in the Gaffer. He would deserve a nice hot cup of tea for all his troubles, if it weren't for his non-existent face and all. *grins*

Author Reply: If the Nazgul were prone to hissy fits, I believe that Khamul would have thrown one after that conversation! I imagine that headache will be a migraine by the time they get to Crickhollow. ;)

harrowcatReviewed Chapter: 25 on 3/1/2007
Oh thanks so much for the great giggle as I head back down the motorway - again.

He scrunched the useless map into a ball and did his best not to screech. - I know exactly how he feels!

Author Reply: Thank goodness that spy didn't think to include Buckland on the Shire map. Well, unless you're Khamul! ;)

Thanks for reading!
