A New Kind of Courage  by Auntiemeesh 8 Review(s)

Working my way through this and enjoying it very much. Thank you for sticking to canon and for not making the hobbits quite so totally childlike I have to scream while still providing me with lots of nice tasty angst. I am reading slowly - partly because I've had little time to read and partly because I am savoring it - but I did want to let you know I have been enjoying it.

This story keeps getting better. I'm glad pippin's feeling better, and at last the hobbits are somewhat reunited, if not consiously. I havn't been on the sight for a while, but i can't wait to catch up on all the stories. keep writing, I love them!

"And ‘hello’ to you, too, Meriadoc Brandybuck," he replied, setting the mug down as he approached Merry’s cot.
(I can just hear Gandalf saying this, and see the twinkle in his eye)

He asked politely but had no intention of taking ‘no’ for an answer.
(Ah, yes, stick to your guns, Merry. No, wait, there are no guns in M-e. Thankfully.)

holding an apple in one hand and a large chunk of cheese in the other, taking small, neat bites of each, allowing the flavors and textures to blend in his mouth
(So hobbity!)

...and the visit to Sam and Frodo, tender and heart-wrenching together. Gandalf's regret. The difficulty telling Sam and Frodo apart, with all their bandages and injuries. The comfort of hearing the snore. Merry taking Frodo's hand and talking to him. Telling Pippin about Sam and Frodo, and receiving a squeeze from Pippin's hand.

Thanks! No more time for reading, regretfully, but at least it gives me something to look forward to.

Poor Merry! To be so tired he couldn't even get out his reasons to see Frodo and Sam! At least he got some sleep! I liked the way you described Merry seeing Frodo and Sam and talking to Frodo, very sweet! I look forward to all of them being reunited again! Can't wait for more!

Author Reply: Thanks. I keep thinking, next chapter is the reunion chapter and then getting to it and finding out it's not. I'm pretty sure chapter ten won't be the reunion chapter, but we'll get there eventually. :)

Merry's reaction to seeing Frodo and Sam was wonderfully done. You showed how sad he was at their condition and yet how relieved he was to finally be able to see them. I love the way he comes back and tells Pippin that everything is alright but really seems to be reassuring himself while Pippin sleeps. Oh, and Gandlaf was perfect!

Author Reply: Thanks. Merry is starting to recover a bit from the Black Breath and he's able to see that things aren't as bad as he feared, but he still needs lots of reassurance. It's hard for him to be recovering himself but needing to take care of everyone else at the same time.

Loved your description of Frodo and Sam's tent. It sounds so peaceful and healing in and of itself. Was interested to see your description of the Ringbearers as well, I could see them so clearly in my mind. Merry's praise of Frodo and reassurance to Pippin was sweet.

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked Frodo's and Sam's tent. I'd like a tent like that myself.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment :)
