Dabbles in Drabbles  by LKK 4 Review(s)

I did not think of this, that Legolas would be furious. Hmmm. I guess he would at that. But would he really think that dwarves would not know beauty when they saw it? I thought at the very least elves recognized the beauty of dwarvish craftsmanship. I'm reading the silmarillion now, and it says the dwarves taught the elves much in the way of crafting things, and loved the jewel work. And, of course, they appreciated having the good, metal weapons when the orcs came. (Tolkien says this is why Eru Thingol's group vaquishes the enemy but Cirdan's and others do not.)

Anyway, it was so long before Legolas was around, I bet he never thinks of stuff like that.

I like this, LKK. Legolas sounds extremely unfriendly towards Gimli here! I also liked the comment about him not recognising beauty if it stood before him - we know better!

It's a goood idea to link the four challenges - I wish I'd thought of that!

Author Reply: Legolas's outburst calling for a plague on dwarves is one of the rare times when he expresses an extreme emotion. It has always stayed with me from the first time I read it. At that moment, I think he was about ready to hit the dwarf. I'm surprised that more people don't write about it.

A little hint of things to come: Legolas is going to learn a lot about Gimli's appreciation of beauty before the cycle ends. ;)

Thanks for the review, Jay.

Outstanding, L. You have captured Legolas beautifully.

Author Reply: Thanks, K., I'm glad you liked it. :)

Now that I've got Legolas, I'm not going to let him go. You'll have to find a new elf to give round ears to. ;)

goes off to find pointed tips to glue back on to the poor elf's ears

Oh look! Canon! LOL. Sorry. I'm being silly.

This was nice, LKK. You really do pack a lot into the hundred words. The tone of Legolas's "voice" here is quite realistic, I think, not to mention the content of what he says.

Author Reply: Cannon? You betcha! Those elves had loads of gunpowder. ;)

Thanks for the review, daw. Writing this drabble was a bit like pulling teeth, rather painful to say the least. The words just wouldn't come without a lot of experimenting. So I'm grateful to hear that you think I got the tone and content right. :)
