Hi Budgielover,

I smiled... and again. First about the "wizard, who did not contradict overmuch" and then about an Elf accompanying Hobbits. I see Legolas stand and watch with his hands on his hips while the discussion of who climbs the tree goes on and on, until he - finally shaking his head - decides to climb up himself. Boy, what a picture! And the Hobbits - dead earnest - congratulate themselves silently about how clever they talked him into doing this without asking for it.

And why was I not surprised to read that poor Legolas fell off that tree? LOL! His last thought to Gimli was priceless!

So glad you put the link to the picture in the prologue; it was one I hadn't seen before. I notice that the horses are on edge, too. So often they notice something amiss before the rider does.

The character of the unseen hunters is chillingly drawn, little by little, in conversational clues.

Without seeking more, Legolas knew that Merry had taken the outside position on one side, with Sam on the other. It has always been so, Aragorn had told him, since Weathertop.
(A nice example of the meticulous detail to be found in your stories)

I would welcome the opportunity to repay some of the pain they have caused
(Be careful what you wish for!)

The hobbits gazed innocently back.
(ah, that innocent look. sure sign of trouble. surely Gandalf knows his hobbits well enough by now...?)

I like the hints of Legolas' communion with the trees in passing, and the trees' response to him.

Drat. Interrupted. Well, I will look on the bright side, and look forward to reading more, later.

Yay, a new story from Budgielover!

What am I saying? Weeks and weeks of unbearably evil cliffies....

This already looks like a classic, Budgie. You've set up a wonderfully easy, long-forged friendship between Legolas and Aragorn, and brought back another installment of your delightful, beautifully written, oh-so-clever (and forever innocent of wrongdoing) hobbits.

“No, not harm,” Aragorn returned, both agreeing and disagreeing, “not deliberate harm. But -”

“I understand you have experienced a few unfortunate … uh, incidents with the little folk, which surely cannot be blamed upon them -”

“That’s just it,” interrupted the man seriously. “It’s never their fault. Somehow they end up covered in roses and I end up covered in manure. I don’t know how they do it.”

How DO they do it? Hee hee. I already can't wait for Chapter 2!

Very interesting. I love stories that take place in the middle of the books. More soon please!

I have loved your hobbit-centered stories since first reading Out of All Knowledge (which,BTW, I'm rereading as I type :).....), and your character of Legolas in Recovery at Rivendell and Snowball Fight was very good. When I saw this new posting, tho', I almost hyperventilated - Budgielover writing a story centered on the elf? Ai! Such a reward to end a trying day! Thank you!!!! Now, my poor, greatly tormented Legolas has fallen out of a tree...don't tell the dwarf, indeed! I cannot wait for the next chapter...umm, well, I guess I can, but hurry....evil cliffies have been multiplying like rabbits all over this site lately! Can I stand the strain? Doubtful! ;)

Very well written! I dont follow many stories that revolve around the Hobbits, being more of an elf-fan myself, but I love everytime they join in the adventure... and the way you write them is very, very *g* hobbit-like. Loved the first chapter, hope you update soon ;)

I don't believe it! *Legolas* fell out of a *tree*? Ouch, the poor elf! Sounds like he could be badly hurt. So which will be worst - the injuries to his body, or the damage to his pride? I look forward to finding out. I love your stories, especially when they feature more elves!
