Song of Three  by Avon 5 Review(s)

First-rate poetical triad. The old druid connection works wonderfully here.

I personally see Faramir as a falcon, rather than a raven, but ravens have had interesting roles in folklore.

I am a promise: of things that will come - lovely allusion to Faramir in his capacity of herald of the King's return.

Quietly beautiful piece of fanfiction.

Great ... I loved your imagery as much as your restraint and the equal parts strength and sadness with which you mixed this poem.

Author Reply: Gosh, *blush* thanks!

Well done, although I cannot judge meters other than iambic pentameter! Faramir as a raven? You do know the raven is one of Queen Mab's avatars, don't you? (She's Welsh not Irish, but that's what I always thought Gondor stood for: Roman-era Wales.) It's difficult enough writing something that can be read aloud or recited. Thank you for this little gift. :)

Author Reply: Hi Nienna, (if I may shorten your name so)
No, I had no idea that a raven was one of Queen Mab's avatars - but that's very interesting, as is Gondor as Roman-era Wales. Certainly makes a change from all those who see it as Mediteranean. I borrowed the equation of Faramir with a raven from my friend Fileg so I've also passed your comment on to her as I know she'll be interested.

Anyway, I'm very pleased to know that you liked it and thank you for taking the time to leave feedback.

This is lovely, and subtly powerful.

Might not Aragorn want to be an eagle rather than a hawk, though? Thorongil and all that...

bests, L.

Author Reply: *Bangs heada on wall* Indeed, oh indeed! ;-) Someone else pointed this out on a yahoogroup too - so much for my attempts at deep and meaningful ;-) I will change it (once I've decided *how*)- and thank you very much for pointing it out.

Cheers,

Avon
