May the Valar Protect Them  by Nilmandra 1 Review(s)

Too, too sweet.
I don't usually get all misty eyed over fantasy but I think I did with this. I did manage one tear over Sam in ROTK but that was it.
So they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when it came to the orcs. I think the orcs and Easterlings were the ones to pay for that little cosmic coincidence.
Tathiel, the prince and the ellyth are a little uncomfortable around a huge group of guy elves. They have been alone for so long it would be a little overwhelming.
Bregolas thinks Legolas is just like their mother. They will have someone to remember her by. Have you seen Dawnlyn's pencil sketches of Legolas? She has a baby picture that is so sweet it could almost put a diabetic into a coma. I can say this because I am insulin resistant and understand what sugar can do to a person's well being.
The bond between Legolas and Tathiel would be even stronger than ordinary because she has not had a father to share the bonding with. The prince has taken everything he needs from her. This could be a complication in the future. But we know how well adjusted he turns out so they do work things out.
Having the prince rehearse what he will say to adar. Words won't really matter when the king sees his son for the first time but Tathiel shows her devotion to the family by her care.
Finally Legolas gets to see what an adar is. His ellyth's ada seems to be a good thing to him. He is still overwhelmed by strangers, he is only courageous to a point and the ada passed the point. But the prince is still a polite elfling and finally warms up to him.
What a lovely scene you crafted for the reunion of Legolas and family. Moving, sweet and teary. Just what we need at this point in the story. And yes adars are great to have around. After feeling so unsafe around Hazad and running from orcs he can now feel safe in adas arms and be secure with his family. Leges loves Lafron too and now Lathron can sense only warmth and comfort from Legolas. He can be the bridge if needed to bring Legolas into the family.
I am sorry but the possessive prince is not ever going to let Tathiel go completely. He is going to need her for a long time and thank goodness the king realizes this.
A warm bath. What a novelty. There will be so many things that a little elfling will have to get used to. And for Tathiel what a nice homecoming.
Such sweet interaction between the king and his little prince at dinner. Legolas is going to bring his family so much warmth, love and comfort. If he is like his mother she seemed to be a very warm and loving she elf so he will be for his family too.
Well this part of the tale is over so we can leave Legolas to the loving embrace of his extended family.
Thank you for all the hard work you put into this. I know I have a few chapters to go but I cannot conceive of how much time you expended on this to have thirty chapters and long ones at that. I didn't want to forget to thank you.

Author Reply: I love dawnlyn's work - her youngest Legolas is what I see when I think of him. I am lgad you liked the story. The epilogues were written before the inital story, much was yanked out, and had I known I would continue the little Legolas chronicles, I am not sure I would have had the last chapter. But, oh well :D There is an elfling to raise, and I hope if you have the time and inclination you'll read the much shorter sequels. Thank you! ~Nilmandra
