One pair of Tookish green eyes looked into another. “Father, I want to do this, but I’m frightened. What if I’m no good at being a husband?”

Pippin smiled gently at his son, so like himself in many ways, looks especially, except for the dark curls that always reminded him of Frodo. “You will do fine, son. I think you’ve seen enough examples to know how a good marriage works.”

“I’ll try to make her happy.”

“You had better. You have not only her father and brothers to answer to if you don’t, but me as well,” his father grinned.
